Lots of sounds tonight coming out that Uefa are contemplating introducing new financial fair play rules for all professional clubs.
Basically the difference to Version 1 (which ultimately failed you have to say) is that clubs will not be able to spend more than 100m euros NET per season if it's introduced.
I think there's definitely a feeling with the recent mega deals that football is getting too ridiculous. £195m for one player and a loan for another with £160m buy it next year clause has obviously set alarm bells ringing.
What do we think? Personally think it's a good idea. Doesn't rule out those huge money deals as it's net spend of 100m. However if you spend £150-200m on one player you will have to recoup a lot of cash yourselves to counter it.
FFP version 2.0 ???

Can't believe I didn't consider that career path.

Best thing for football would be if every fee over a certain amount has to be matched by a 10% (for instance) payment to a grass roots type fund. Essentially a robin hood tax on big spending.
Money is then distributed to lower leagues and amateur level, kids etc.

that is how they do it in MLB baseball.
the teams that spend over a certain amount must pay a percentage into a communal fund as a fine that is then distributed among the teams that do not go over the 'limit'

Ah really. That's a very interesting idea (a bit different to what I meant originally)

It doesn't though, because this will only impact the top end due to where they are capping it. They won't all fall.

You may well be right but I can't honestly see how you can possibly know that already.
If top end players values come down, I think it's a fair prediction to make that average players will too.
Guess we will see how things develop. I encourage FFP anyway even if it doesn't benefit my club which it may or may not. Football is getting stupid. We've got two middle east Countries having a biggest shlong contest and clubs like Utd have been forced into outrageous spending to try and keep pace.

We haven’t been forces, we are part of the outrageous spending in the first place. Bit of a cheerleader on it.

True but we just get fleeced because of who we are and the emergence of city has made us up our game too. That can't be denied.

I dont think it will work.
If a big club has spent £150m on a player and then needs to sell, then the value of the player they want to sell will drop because the buying club will know they are desperate.
Can't see the big clubs going for it.

Agreed, city, PSG, is, other perm clubs and jive have been responsible for upping the fees, we haven’t helped ourselves either.
