Not all fans identify with the Leeds salute

The salute originated in the late 80s among the hooligan element. It was since adopted by the larger wannabe hooligan element and now become a staple of a large section of match day support at elland road. However many fans still see it as a violent relic of the 80s. I do not know how Angus kinnear or Leeds could think that adopting such a symbol would be a good business decision, as it would alienate a section of their own fanbase

Fook and I did a thread ‘carry on saluting’...., feel like a right Pratt now......

For far right element, also read... casuals or hooligans, many of whom were not natzi types.

Celtic and Aberdeen crews for starters.

Some conflicting stories but so what if it was born from something we’re not particularly proud of?

What it means now is completely different

Question is if you do the salute, does that mean that you are seen to have far right tendencies or are a natzi ?, if so then fook that I ain’t doing that again....

Can't speak for others but I've seen it as nothing more than an unspoken message of solidarity between LUFC fans

Completely agree. I just think people have jumped on the fascist thing as they don't want it being implemented & will do / say anything to stop

The salute has nothing to do fascism as far as I know, and ill keep doing it until the day I die....its Leeds.

And on a separate note, the only fascists around these days are the so called anti-fascists

Gelderd...if as you say & a few others say it's a leeds thing, that I can understand, but I've got to say other teams supporters see the right wing element, I know we've had problems in the past and maybe that's what they're picking up on, but surely they have a right wing element in their support, can't just tarnish us with that brush.....

Who cares what fans of other teams think, if it was a fascist salute we would be investigated by the FA and the football league.

Carry on regardless imo

The salute has NOTHING to do with natsism.

It started way back in history, was used for every corner, and was always used for Marching On Together.

When used alternatively between Leeds fans - cars on the motorway passing the coaches etc - it was always used with the left arm to signal it was nothing to do with a natsi salute.

Glyn Snodin only did it because he was substitute so much, he spent so long warming up and seeing the Leeds fans doing it, he chose to use it just like some of our players do now.

The left or right arm issue has disappeared - it was never anything to do with the badge nor the heart either.
