McTominay

What are people’s thoughts on him? I like the guy. He got smashed around by Thuggersfield today but kept on going. In the first half he played it safe with mainly sideways balls but was more ambitious in the second half and put some good balls about.

He’s maybe not as glamorous a prospect of someone like Pereira but he is that rarity - a youth player Jose has faith in. With Carrick joining the coaching team this summer it would be good to see him mould McT into a player in his image.

Anyone else like what they see?

There is nothing wrong with calmness and simplicity. In the midst of all the madness you need someone like that in a match.

.........

No one has argued this.

however nobody wants to give any young player a chance anymore in football.

This is ballacks.

People just don't think he's a good footballer.

Many have and do want Rashford, TFM, Tuanzebe and Perreira to get games as they are impressive players.

McTominay is from the Tyler Blackett, Paddy McNair and Borthwick-Jackson group of academy players, in my opinion.

You were crying about people saying they weren't good players as well just because they are from the academy.

I remember Beckham getting what I think was his first game for us in a CL tie around 1994 and he looked average.

He scored from distance?

If TFM had a solid, if risk free game like McTominay did... you'd have been celebrating it.

Okay.

What makes McTominey stand out from the rest of our youth team? To play for Man United's first team is a big deal and you should be pretty talented to do so. What talent does Scott possess?

Based on watching over a thousand hours of him play for the Reserves, I've given you a nice long list above.

Ji,

Context - we’ve already seen TFM perform in tough games under difficult circumstances and his skill set is bit more clearly defined - he’s rapid, strong and aggressive and can play a number of positions.

*minutes, not hours ffs

Where is the list Rosso? Do you mind reposting? I can only judge on what I've seen of him (which is a significant number of minutes in the first team now) and I don't see what he offers. If he was a shiny new signing and performed in that manner, I doubt people would want him in the team. With that being the case, I don't think a local youngster should be given a by ball, simply because of his locality. That's crazy, but I see no other reason for people wanting McTominay in the team

Fifth comment on page two

People do have to have different expectations of Academy graduates. None can be expected to come in and perform like a shiny new 25-year old transfer with experience in the PL or one of Europe's other top leagues.

Their first 12, 24 or 36 months even in the first team is all about learning how to play at the level required of a Manchester United player, and giving youngsters that experience and integrating them into the first team is something we can be proud to have done as well as anyone in Europe in the last 25 years.

And we've reaped the benefits over that period, and are continuing to do so with the likes of Rashford and Lingard.
