Absolutely tragic.

Is it time to stop boxing? Is it a sport worth losing your life over?

Im a big boxing fan but at times like this, it does make you wonder is it all worth it? Huge moral dilemma

Think that is going a bit OTT though, there's been 3 deaths in 23 years, which yes is still 3 too many but if you compared it to other sports i'd imagine they'd be at least similar if not more deaths. Death is part of the risk that comes with the territory unfortunately. But then again it's also part of life, you could get on a train or a bus and it could easily be blown up, are you going to stop getting on them? A plane could crash or something could go wrong at any time and you could die, are you going to stop going on them?

There's risk of death in pretty much everything in life, and this was one of the rare occasions where a boxer sadly lost his life. Everything was done correct from their end, they noticed something was off pronto, got him off to hospital straight away, there was no need for the ref to step in at anytime he wasn't taking unnecessary damage, so personally i think it's just one of them tragic things and we just have to pay our condolences and accept it for what it is.

Dont use the bus or train analogy
You dont go out looming to get hit by a bus.

But people pay to watch 2 guys fight. The risk is you may die. Not likely but it could happen and does now and again.

Im just asking that in a 21st century society, is boxing really a sport worth losing your life over.

Life has an end. But is this a way that morally we're happy to accept?

I dont know. I do love boxing but with everything, it has a shelf life.

Problem is where do you draw the line, do we ban F1 as well? And MMA? And horse racing? Plus many of other sports, think you just have to accept that sometimes there will be deaths unfortunately

Should these sports/pastimes be banned?

For me this is about informed decisions.

If a boxer knows, understands and accepts the risks of participating in the sport then that is up to the individual. There has to be room for individual choices in life, however risky or ill-advised some may consider it.

I don't know what the boxing board do in terms of education of the risks (not just death but longer term risks to health) but as long as that is sufficient then morally, I'm very comfortable with boxing as a sport.

boxing in comparison to other major sports sees a lot less deaths, very dangerous and when I see people making comments about boxers being cowards it makes me cringe,
