Rotation makes sense to the sensible

Gents,

Won’t comment on the VAR stuff as it’s been done to death in the last 12 hours or so, will just speak about the performance of some of our players last night.

Lucas Moura:
Lacked game time at PSG, only making 5 league appearances and 1 cup appearance this season prior to joining us. Meant that whilst he’s clearly fresh, he’s also lacking match sharpness. Albeit against mainly weaker opponents in Rochdale, he’s looked good. Wants to get on the ball, commit defenders and also has the intelligence to spot his teammates and pick out a pass.

Son:
Had a great run in January but has dipped in the last few weeks. Back on the scoresheet yesterday and which will give his confidence a boost.

Llorente:
Hat-trick hero! I’ll claim an assist for that for saying he’s been a terrible signing and that I hope he can prove me wrong. Puts severe pressure on Kane as he’s not scored a hat-trick this year

SAF used to rotate his squad throughout the season, knew how to keep his players on their toes and also make them feel involved.

Guardiola rotated his team a lot in both Spain and Germany.

Messi has said that a rest is needed at times. He started on the bench away to Juventus - a big game - and they didn’t lose

The managers and the coaching staff have the relevant tools to establish how fresh or fatigued a player is, the players themselves know that they can’t possibly play potentially 60+ games in a season at their optimum.... yet 1 or 2 of our fans think they know better

We didn’t get taken to a replay because we rotated, we were taken to a replay because the players who were picked didn’t perform as they should have done.

Rotation

Tbf I wasn't too happy with the team picked last night but we made easy work of them.

Rotation has its place but I don't think we are too good at rotation, both teams picked at home vs Rochdale/Newport definitely better than the ones picked away.

As long as the balance is right then it’s fine.

It’s wrong when the team we picked for Newport Away.

---------

this is the key. sensible rotation. maintain your balance and style, but with players who are not necessarily first choice

Rotation is essential. Players aren’t machines, they can’t perform at their maximum all year round without having a rest. The numpties who say that’s it not necessary are probably the same numpties who say:

“Yeah I enjoyed my holiday. Was nice to get away and have a break”

Rest your body and your mind, recuperate and go again.

Strange how your average football fan has to work 40 or 50 hours a week train twice a week and then play both Saturday and Sunday and they dont earn anywhere near 50 to a 100 k a week.

The likes of Athletico managed to win the Spanish league and reach the CL final using about 15 players.

Basically the modern day players is a damned prima donna who would not recognise a "tough" week if it kicked them up the backside.

Yes we beat Newport and Rochdale with a rotated team. Lets not forget we needed a replay against both sides to do this therefore we have actually had to play 2 extra games.

Resting 3 or 4 players is one thing but changing the whole team is just ridiculous. Even then the likes of Dembele and Alli came on against Rochdale at 5-1 up, why if they need a rest, why bring them on at all?

I for one will be furious if he rotates against Swansea having seen the likes of Palace knock us out of the cup when we fielded a weakened side.

Beat Swansea and we are one step away from a cup final and its a trophy that we are in with a damned good chance of winning. I will always disagree with gambling under those circumstances and really cannot understand anybody that thinks otherwise.

We wont win the prem and thats for sure, we are unlikely to win the CL but we are in with a genuine chance of winning the FA Cup and the biggest chance of us blowing that chance is by gambling with team selection.

Forgive me for wanting to win something and failing to worship at the altar of a top 4 place.

Balanced rotation is fine

We have 20 very good players and can play at anytime.

That very same Atleti team were knackered in the final stretch of the season and won the league due to Barca and Real Madrid not capitalising on their mistakes. Come the CL final they were dead on their feet. Saying that, Atletico treat the ball like the plague, easier to pack your own box as opposed to pressing high up the pitch and playing expansive football.
