Love watching (almost) all the teams at the World Cup, getting the chance to see highly regarded young players make their name, or an underdog team making it to the latter stages. My spurs bias will always remain though, and I'll be keeping a keener eye on how they perform on the big stage
In group C we have Eriksen and Lloris for Denmark and France respectively. Eriksen is by far Denmark's star man, and will be pivotal if they are to progress. 11 goals and 3 assists in 12 qualifiers are testimony to this, including his clutch hat-trick against Ireland. Denmark are otherwise full of decent if unspectacular players, with Sisto of Celta Vigo perhaps being another difference-maker, and will be battling it out for 2nd spot with Peru and Australia, which does seem achievable
France, on the other hand, are one of the tournament's favourites, with Lloris the captain. He's come under some criticism from the French recently, but should nevertheless be a guaranteed starter. Sissoko was always a favourite of Deschamps, but there is way too much talent in the France squad to justify his inclusion
Group D and E include Argentina and Brazil, although Lamela and Lucas seem highly unlikely to make the cut. Lamela was in the Argentina squad before his major injury last season, which makes his situation very unfortunate, with too little time to force his way back in. Lucas, meanwhile, hasn't had a look in for Brazil in a while
Sonny's South Korea are in Group F, and it feels needless to say that Asia's best player is their star man. He has a respectable 1 in 3 record for his country, and scored at the last World Cup, but it does feel like he's going to need to be at his very best for his Korea to advance in a group containing Germany, Mexico and Sweden
Group G is where the bulk of our players are, and where our attention will be, with Belgium and England. An injury free Alderweireld will most likely start in a back 3 with Kompany and Vertonghen, but Dembele will have to battle for his place in midfield, with De Bruyne's transformation into a CM providing even more competition for him
Dier and Dele are almost certain starters for England. Trippier will make the squad as Walker's back up, although Rose has some competition with Bertrand and Young, although I still think he will make the cut. Both Belgium and England will surely progress
Oh and Harry Kane too. He'll be salivating at the prospect of facing Panama and Tunisia. He and Sterling are the key attackers for England obviously
Lastly, Davinson Sanchez's Columbia are in a pretty even Group H, alongside Japan, Poland and Senegal. Sanchez is a starter, and if Columbia perform to their best, with players such as James Rodriguez, Falcao and Cuadrado, they should see themselves through, although there doesn't seem to be any real weak link in this group
Spurs players at World Cup

I hope they all have pretty good performances on an individual level, but at the same time I don’t want any of their teams to go too far - unless it’s Argentina who I want to see win the World Cup - as an extended tournament would impact their return to club football

Dele doesn’t start either game

It’s his near post that concerns me...seems to get beaten there far too easily

Definitely his Achilles heel in my opinion

Good article!
Going to be a very interesting competition.
I'm putting a little money on France and Belgium.
Anyone else got a bet?
