Are we overachieving?

Morning boys

Simple question really. I think the consensus is that because we pay so much less on wages, then to be competing like have over the last couple years is an overachievement.

However, if we are all in agreement that our players could earn a lot more elsewhere, then that would imply we have players at a level above the wages we pay and therefore, based on the players we have, we are not overachieving because that is how good they are?

It makes sense in my head but Iā€™m probably not explaining very well.

To exaggerate the point, considering we have/had the best RB, LB, CBs, Young player, Striker etc in the league in the last few years, regardless of their wage, would again imply we have not overachieved - underachieved if anything?

Hopefully Lucas Moura can get more games next season and start giving Son some competition. He's been quite impressive in what little we've seen of him.

Sissoko has appeared in over 40 games this season. He can be sold, which does give room for a new winger to come in.

The squad needs more pace and quality in it.

That suggests they’re vastly underpaid and we need to reward them with trophies and money. Quickly.

What's been good for Spurs is that they have been able to keep players and on a tighter budget than others

However, they fell away chasing Leicester City 3 seasons ago and they haven't actually improved their points totals in the league since. They got out of the CL group this season but that is the only real indication of 'progression'

There is a danger that Spurs simply become the new Arsenal whereby they are convinced that actually been in the CL is achieving enough

The game is about trophies and loyal as players like Kane seem to be, you cannot go season after season doing the same things and retain these players

Walker left last summer to win trophies, and look at what he is part of now. Other players will see that and it only takes 1 or 2 then you are in the cycle of replacing rather than actually improving

Alderweireld wants a last big contract and it seems Spurs won't pay him what he wants. The issue is that players who aren't as good as he is are getting more than double what he gets and indeed probably what he has been offered

So you don't get the deal done, you then sell him. You probably in this market have to spend £50m on another CB then will pay that player double what you are currently paying Alderweireld. You'll do that rather than retain a tried and trusted player with solid PL experience. This is football economics and makes no sense!

We got 70 points the season Lesta won and then 86 points last season. So if my maths is correct we did improve our points total

Oh and we are only two points away from that points total already this season ( Lesta winning season )

Well they have improved on their points total, but let’s not let facts get in the way of fiction eh?

I forgot you dropped off that badly that season yes, last season more points now this season dropping off again...improvements?

Another season with a stable squad and what's happened?

I didn’t realise there had to be a lineal progression year on year for all clubs

I know you’ve put big effort into this subtle wum but when you get a huge part wrong it’s time to give up and move on

Another season, more nothing...another year

Don't fall into the Arsenal trap. And in fairness they have won some FA Cups

Spurs can't keep talking about improving because this season they beat Real Madrid in a group game. Time is now and nothing is happening

As a benchmark, improving slightly on last season might have Spurs competing but they have dropped off

There has to be success to keep top players. There will be players in that squad looking at Walker and wondering. Do you think Kane will stay loyal forever?
