I initially put this on Jonty's article about censorship, but then realised that he and many others had filtered each other so decided it needed an article creating on it's on.
Numerous people on here, on social media, in the press and in the government and it's opposition parties are against our trip, and have been vociferous in their comments about the trip. But, to me it is the usual case of double standards.
Marks & Spencer, Primark, Next, Sports Direct and H&M all source and finance manufacturing of goods within Myanmar.
British American Tobacco, Carlsberg owners of our own Tetleys brand, Unilever and many other British and Anglo european companies have their own factories there.
Next month the British Chamber of commerce is hosting the Annual British Ball in Yangdon, a black tie event aimed at attracting more British businesses to invest in Myanmar.

So everyone on here who feels so strongly about LUFC's trip to the country, remember next time you are wearing your clothes from one of the above stores that were washed in Persil, drinking your pint of Tetleys, smoking your Dunhills, Rothmans or Lucky Strikes, in your body washed with Lynx, and looking forward to your Pot Noodle, or wearing, eating, drinking washing in or with, one of several hundred other products owned by these companies, you are also contributing to those companies who also support the Myanmar Government and it's people through the businesses there.
Double Standards

Nothing was stolen to establish Israel. The Arabs were offered significantly more of the land than Israel in 1947 under the United Nations mandate. Israel accepted, the Arabs declined. Israel was willing to share the land, the Arabs wanted it all.
-----
Except that the Arabs had all the land before the UN mandate. Modern Israel didn't even exist before that time.

Exactly..... but then that would be stating facts, so probably best to ignore that bit.

Why don't we get back to this being a football discussion board, we will have all sorts of views on here left wing, right wing, pro this, anti that, but in the end we all have one thing in common Leeds United,

Explain?

You're a Man City fan, I really don't think you need me to explain who your owners are.

I know exactly who are owners are, was your glib reply down to ignorance or just good old Leeds United racism?

Agree with you, Don, but won’t let baseless attacks on Israel go unanswered.

Afridi, I can see this is a personal issue for you but I was rock climbing there in the 1990's and I can only comment about what it was like then. The point I was making is that there is no way of having a dialogue with people whose hostility is so ingrained, as yours is, that they cannot consider different points of view.
You should ask yourself why, in a region of 200 million+ Muslims, there is no impetus to resolve the Palestinian issue. Israel seems to have built relationships with countries like Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, while Palestine is locked in a timewarp of anti-Israel rhetoric. The other Arab states could easily isolate Israel economically, without resorting to violence, but they don't. The justification for a Jewish state is no longer being questioned. The world has moved on. You should ask who Palestine's friends are, because their diplomacy is not working and it looks like their allies have lost interest in the cause.

JLA- I'm very pro Israel but think we need to stick to football, between us we could argue all day and night about the rights and wrongs in the world but I wouldn't want to fall out with people about politics When we all love Leeds,

I agree Don, just explaining why I have responded to other postings on this thread up to now.

The 'Occupied' Territories are called that for a reason.

Normally I would steer clear of non-football issues (and I apologise to Jonty for doing exactly what I advised him not to do) but sometimes, you just have to call it the way you see it. Spot on with your comments, Don, whatever our differences, we all love this club and long to be back in the Premier League. It's football all the way from now on.

I stumbled across this today and thought it might provide more information to those who have an interest in the more recent history(last 100 years or so):
