Quite a drastic change in direction in the 5 years since we were graced with the superb AM. Not one i can say i am completely happy with.
It really should have been put out as a solo album because it very much sounds like one plus the sound produced doesn't seem like it will fit in very well with a live Arctic Monkeys performance, it's generally too slow paced and rambles on at times. I'm seeing them this summer at Trnsmt and will be hoping the set is not heavy on the new album.
The album itself starts on the worst song in Star Treatment but gradually improves throughout. High points for me were Four Stars out of Five, Science Fiction, She Looks like fun and Ultracheese.
That said as an easy listening album it's not bad, the lyrical cleverness is still there in spades as are the cutting observations. So it still has the hallmarks of Turner but my over-riding thought on it is it should have been a solo album or a Last Shadow puppets album.
What are the thoughts of anyone who has had a chance to listen?

There are two or three that should fit in well with their live performances, hopefully that's all they do because I have tickets.
Listened to it all now, and it isn't a bad album, I think it'll grow on me. But as you say i doubt it what their fans would have expected.
Four out of five, she looks like fun and one point perspective are great.

They released tickets for their shows before the album came out for a reason

If you've not seen their special on the iplayer at Maida Vale, well worth a watch but for some reason he's dressed like a mechanic
The album has grown on me, seeing them at Trnsmt in a few weeks will see how the new tunes go down live.

"but for some reason he's dressed like a mechanic"
He is a very strange bloke if we are honest. Cool as feck though.

Just caught the BBC special, brilliant set. Also saw an interview where he suggested some of their big tracks will be left out of the tour, which is a shame.
