Shelvey... seriously?!

Look I've watched Shelvey play 4 or 5 times this season, and several more times in previous seasons... is everyone else watching the same player?

We are talking about the same fella right; bald, slightly hooked nose, has a passing resemblance to a Sontaran from Dr Who..?
Why on earth is every Tom D!ck and Harry singing his praises like he's the 'Pirlo of Tyneside', the 'Modric of Magpies' or the 'Xabi Alonso of alopecia'?!

I really don't get it.
I mean he attempts some ambitious passes.
The key word being 'attempts'.
Not even Sterling is fast enough to make his passing look accurate, and Sterling is a fast as it gets for England.

It's giving me deja-vous of that time when almost the entire footballing country tried to convince me that Scott Parker was world class and the answer to England's midfield conumdrum.
They even gave him a player of the year award!

Seriously a lot of you really are a bunch of dopey emperor's clothes seeing simpletons aren't ya?! X

Agree with the Op.

Shelvey would be this team's Scott Parker.

Inbefore - but he's not brilliant on the ball; he's not good at dribbling nor delivering accurate passes.
Again are you SURE we're talking about the same player?!

LFC_ICE - finally! Some common sense!
It literally can NOT get worse than Shelvey!
Hence why England are taking Loftus-Cheek and Lallana instead x

Cara - when? When was he a good player?
When was this mythical ancient period of good form?
Sure as hell isn't fresh in my memory!

Are all the dippers defending him because he had s handfull of good games for them half a decade ago?!
Can't fault your loyalty, your judgement a thousand times yes, but your loyalty is untouchable x

Shelvey can be really good. But he is inconsistent, and has discipline problems. Which is code for saying he is thick as two short planks. I wouldn't take him.

Disagree. He has an excellent long pass on him. Always did. A good shot too. The issue with him is that he's slow as hell and not very energetic. His style looks lazy. But when you think about players who can create for England, he's one of a few.

The Iniesta of the North East?

The Panamanians will be dancing in the street over this!

You're basically describing Darron Gibson.

Agree with the OP. I'm not a fan. Saying that, I'd have him over Jake fecking Livermore.

The guy is underated. He is one of the few with a good passing range in England. You have to consider that playing for Benitez you need to be disciplined in your defensive duties.

He would be a good option from the bench when you want to play quick long balls from the back.

His weaknesses are slow and rash in the tackles.

The only England player with technical quality and high energy in midfield is Lallana.
Wilshere has the technic but lacks the energy.

I can see both arguments tbh. If you're picking England midfielders on form alone then there's not really an x factor in midfield as most of them are all pretty similar players. Shelvey would definitely be a gamble though
