Odd question you might think, but a good one to ask I say.
Of course Vardy is one of our best players, no denying that. Nev knew years ago he would go on to become one of our greatest ever strikers and he has. He’s also got a right personality. We love you Jamie.
But, is this a good time to sell?
Vardy is now heading toward the latter end of his career. His attributes that make him so deadly may diminish over the next 2-3 seasons. As such, this could be our last chance to get big money for him (say over £50m).
Let’s assume Puel is staying as all indications are that he will. Is Vardy any more effective than Nacho in a Puel formation? With room for only one striker in Puel’s 4-2-3-1 formation, would we really miss him? And we could recoup all of the money we’ve spent out this summer so far.
The Maddison signing is a great one in my opinion, but gives more evidence that we require Vardy less. I believe it’s Puel’s desire to have 3 behind a striker that can score goals. With this in mind Vardy will have his back to goal linking play a lot more. Is he wasted?
Or, is that all nonsense and the reality is, he’s our best striker in any formation so we should keep him?
For the record, I’m on Dunge’s fence for this one. I think most will argue we’d always keep him, but I think the merits of selling are worth debate.
Should we sell Vardy?

I think the crucial word was 'should'
If you'd asked if the Club would or could then that's different.
I believe the Club would if Vardy wants to go.

“I take no issue with having a long-term plan for what to do after Vardy's days are over, because it's a massive question. But that is for /after his days are over/.”

Dunge,
I take issue with this actually.
The obvious consensus on this thread is that we shouldn’t sell Vardy unless we have to. That’s not really in dispute. There are, however, a few areas worth debate:
What happens if Vardy gets injured early next season? Do we have an effective plan B?
Are we too one dimensional with Vardy and lack the surprise factor?
Can Vardy maintain his performance levels for every game?
Is Vardy as important in the style and system that Puel is creating at Leicester?
Does Vardy constrain the development of other strikers through lack of opportunity?
I don’t think anybody on this thread would suggest that Vardy shouldn’t be kept as our main striker and first choice. The continual evolution of the team, however, is the bigger picture here. At some point Vardy will go or age will catch up with him. To suggest that it’s not worth developing another player (such as Ian) to step in when required or eventually take over is a bit strange. They might never be good enough or they might be too good and get cherry picked by a bigger club, but is this a reason not to bother? It’s a win/win in my eyes as we either get a good player or we get shed loads of money to invest in the team elsewhere.
Vardy is the main man, but to not plan for life after Vardy or to ignore continuous improvement and evolution of the wider team is dangerously negligent in my view. Planning when he’s already gone might well be too late.

Perhaps I chose my words badly in one of the posts above, but I'm not saying that you don't try to bring Iheanacho on or try to provide alternatives. Of course we should always be looking to improve the squad. But the argument seemed to be that letting Vardy go in order to give someone else more of a chance would be worth considering. It wouldn't, and it would be a completely false economy.

we need more than one of our four strikers being able to score and thats a fact.
Your lucky Mersey if i posted pap like this i would have been told i had lost my 606 credibility whatever that is.
Puels building a new team around Vardy and his England comrade.

I don’t think it is pap Nev, although I clearly didn’t articulate it as eloquently as Joby.
That’s why I love him.
All those points are merit for discussion. I would personally like to see how Ian would fare (fair?) in Puel’s system as I think he has the potential to be a very good number 9.
And let’s not pretend I didn’t take some hits on this thread. I just choose to debate the responses further.
To reiterate, I don’t beleive we should sell Vardy, but I do beleive our reliance on him may be much less under Puel. Almost to the point of negating him.
But I guess we’ll see.
