DUFC News

Not done one for a while so I thought I might as well brighten up everyone's day with a little bit of DUFC News.

So what to discuss?

Well we started our pre-season games this week with a 2-0 victory up at Brechin, and everyone will be pleased to know that the ball did indeed get stuck in the hedge at one point. Fraser Aird and an own goal by former United youngster Euan Spark gave us the victory.

Further friendlies are apparently in the pipeline, as are a few more transfers, with Laszlo talking about a further 4 new signings taking our total up to 13 new players.

Changes were needed - last seasons squad were dumplings and had a losers mentality. I am a little concerned that it'll take us a while to gel together but ultimately I'm pleased that we've had a revolution of our squad. We'll have to see what the quality is like and how we play tactically but I'm hopeful we'll have a good campaign.

We obviously have a number of games across the season and we will need a reasonably large squad - particularly given that the quality of our youth team is questionable at the moment. Thankfully we've again confirmed that we'll play our youths in the Irn Bru Cup and I completely agree with this. The competition has once again been changed (sabotaged) for reasons that have nothing to do with improving the competition or the lot of our lower league teams, and everything to do with...well, I think we all know.

The competition has this season introduced the two best non-league teams from England based on last seasons standings. I don't know who they are. I don't know what they'll add. There is no rationale for adding these teams, and given that they will want to focus on getting promotion (from a 46 game league campaign, along with FA cup quallys and FA trophy games) I have no idea why they'll take it seriously.

They've also increased the age limit for the youth players in the colt teams and added an allowance for a couple of senior players as well. Apparently the utter failure of the colt teams wasn't a reason to scrap this element. They are determined for a few colt teams to do well because this will strengthen the argument to include them in the league proper. I'm sure it won't be long until we see a couple of internationals in these games and who knows, we might be talking about Kenny Miller scoring the winner for Livi u20s in this seasons competition.

Hmm...I got sidetracked with a rant. Lovely stuff. I don't really have anything else to say though.

Talk was of 4 in this week but all quiet at the moment. Up in Aberfeldy so may go across to the Oban tournament tomorrow and watch the 20s.Any news on how any of the new signings played Ivan ?

No idea mate. Don't know anyone who was at the game.

I was just saying on one of the other threads that I don't really put much weight on pre-season games anyway. You always get a new signing who looks fantastic and then is rotten when the real stuff starts
