'Bottled It'

Yet again more imbeciles misusing what has become a ridiculously overused phrase in Football.

It seems that whenever a team loses a game, or a player misses a chance in a big game, they've bottled it. Not just had a bad game or were a bit wasteful, no they've bottled it.

It really does get tiresome, but it doesn't suit opposition fans agendas to just say rival club players or rival club teams had an off day. Saying they bottled it is more of a mockery.

Predictably, it is the Spurs players being tared by the same brush. Well here are some points about our players in the tournament.

- Many, if not most would agree that Trippier was our best player this tournament.

- Eight out of England's twelve goals were scored by Spurs players.

- Three of England's five goal scorers are Spurs players.

- Six, that's 50% of England's goals were scored by Kane. I don't care if three were penalties and one came off his left b0ll0ck, he scored every penalty and converted most of the chances that came his way. Nobody else got close, or looked like getting close.

- Three of the four successful penalties in the shoot-out were by Spurs players.

- Rose is better than Young and should've played more often.

- I agree that Dier was gash when he played.

Do Spurs fans not have a case for saying 'WTF were the rest of the players doing?'

It's such a shame that after a month of such unity for England, fans are so quick to turn on other players the moment it goes wrong, in what has been our best tournament for 22 years, and best World Cup for 28 years.

I would say that only in England would people use the (very probable) Golden Boot winner as a scapegoat for not getting to the final of a World Cup.

Ultimately in this tournament we had a bunch of good (not fantastic), committed players who on the most part were playing in a formation that suited them. Midfield was the problem, we painfully lack creativity there which is why we had so few shots at goal and struggled against the Croatian and less so, Belgian midfields.

It's a term that my 10 year old cousin would use. Such a simple way of looking at a football match. Results-based analysis, no consideration of anything else

Team A wins football match

'Team A were the better team because they won which means they were better and are winners because they won'

Team B lose football match

'Team B deserved to lose because they lost which means they were the worse team and are bottlers because they lost'

This is how I imagine people who non-ironically use the term 'bottler' or 'bottlejob' view football matches

Then I agree that England shouldn't be classed as bottlers. They done well for a team not expected to get very far.

Spurs on the other hand = bottlers. No two ways about it.

Bollllocks sann
At no point in our ‘challenging’ seasons were we ever top of the pile...we didn’t have anything TO bottle.
Leicester or Chelsea didn’t bottle it is all and deserved their wins for holding their nerve
It’s such a lazy fackin tag.

This is just rubbish. You had the opportunity to go top during the season Leicester won the league at a pivotal moment. We had drawn with West Brom, it was at the business end of the season and you blew it by losing to West Ham.

You bottled a title race. Completely and utterly bottled it. You should have won it that year. Everyone knows it

We bottled 2nd place, not the title. The title was never in our hands to win it, we had to rely on you messing up. Do you understand?

Yes we had to play a London derby away from home against a West Ham who finished 7th. Such an easy 3 points. You still had a game in hand regardless, and our next game was against Arsenal, while yours was Watford.

What on earth does "bottled it" mean?
Is it Hindustani for "fell off a ladder"?

Well no Analog, no one is saying we are bottlers because we lost the odd match are we? We are talking about losing our last 8 semi finals as a club for instance. If you can't tell me that's not a mentality at the club which is bottling it when it matters, at the late stages of a cup, then I don't know what is.

"Bite" is even worse than "bottled it". People who don't know how to argue just use "bite" to supposedly win any arguement.

Mentality at the club? Whose mentality then? Because the players, staff, board etc are all completely different from the start to the end of that run? Is it some ghostly spirit lurking between the walls of white hart lane?

I fancy a bottle of beer, though I might bottle it.
