Modric

For the second World Cup in a row, a player on the losing side wins the golden ball award for best player in the tournament.

Luka Modric is awarded the trophy

Shame he was screwed out of a fair chance of winning it by a crooked ref but he was easily this tournaments star player.

Sheriff absolutely obsessed with Modric. Jumps on literally every positive comment about the player. Absolute clown
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because bandwagonners irritate me. Would you agree with the statement as a Croat that Modric "dragged" Croatia to the finals? Is that in any way an accurate description of Croatia's run to this point: that Modric "dragged" them here? Is it impossible to give a player credit without BS hyperbole?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Bandwaggoners, ie people that can appreciate a good player when they see one? That's some bandwagon we got going on. Keep talking trash mate, you're pissing against the wind at this point. His achievements speak for themselves and any praise he gets is well overdue. Has been smashing it at the top level with consistency levels only the likes of which Ronaldo and Messi can match. Hardly ever injured, always effective and collecting medals for fun. Latest achievement? Dragging a country half the size of London to the WC final

You're crazy if you think Croatia would have done this without him

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Skirting around the main point of the issue as always. Croatia would probably not have got here without any of Lovren. Or Perisic. Or Rakitic. Or Brozovic. Or even Subasic, despite his poor final. Many of them had good tournaments. To say Modric "dragged" them here is stupid and deliberately seeks to inflate his role beyond what it was. No one is denying he is a key cog in the Croatian machine or that he is the best player. That doesn't mean he "dragged" them to anything. Comprehend the basic argument before rushing in to spew your usual sycophantic drivel.

And please, don't ever put Modric in a sentence with Messi and Ronaldo again, you clown.

The basic argument from you is that he is over-hyped, despite all his achievements. You're a stubborn, clueless moron.

When you say he "dragged" Croatia to the final, fack yeah, he's overrated. He didn't come close to doing anything like that. He was a key cog in a solid, compact team that generally defended well, passed it neatly (Brozovic and Rakitic's passing were excellent too along with Modric) and attackers like Perisic were a menace to the opposition. It's enough to credit his role as the leading player in that solid spine. Not spinning BS like claiming he "dragged" Croatia anywhere.

Marco Van Basten v Sheriff off JA606
--
The former Netherlands star and FIFA chief officer for technical development, Marco van Basten, said on Thursday that Croatian captain Luka Modric plays a decisive role in the Balkan squad.

FIFA is to announce the 2018 FIFA World Cup awards after Sunday's final game between Croatia and France at Luzhniki Stadium and Modric is widely thought to be well-positioned to win an award.

"He's reading the game, he's guiding the team game, he's guiding his team, and i think having a player like him in a team - that him brings you far"

Van Basten said that Croatia have good players who fight until the last minute, stressing that the influence of the 32-year-old midfielder Modric has been extraordinary.

Yeah, playing a decisive role is the same thing as the BS of saying a player "dragged" his team to the finals. Your reading comprehension as always is excellent.

I have said severally here that Modric has been Croatia's best player even though I don't see how he has been better than say Hazard at all. That is still very different from implying that he "dragged" Croatia to any damn finals.

he was comfortably better than hazard wtf

Hazard was miles better than Modric. A genuine menace who created, and dribbled and probed rather than a tippy-tappy merchant.

settle down, the overrated hazard yet again bottled it

posted on 16/7/18

Bottled it against who? Was pretty much the only player for Belgium that had a good game against France while the likes of Lukaku, De Bruyne, Dembele and co had horrid games. Without the efforts of Perisic, Modric would have "bottled it" against England. Was amusing to see bandwagonners claiming he "ran" the game.
