So before I start, I just want to get it out there early doors that this isn’t intended to be yet another Spurs vs Liverpool row. There’s enough of them on this site as it is. This is specifically about Dejan Lovren himself and his recent comments:
“I took Liverpool to the final of the Champions League," Lovren said.
“Now with my national team we are in the final.
"I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense."
Debatable in the extreme to say he took them there, although some could argue that was slightly lost in translation. The fact I want to home in on is a simple one - at the time of his comments he had lost the CL final, and the World Cup final was yet to take place.
All that bravado for reaching finals as opposed to winning them? What sort of mentality is that?
Might not have won either trophy, but he’s surely deserving of the #weputthepressureon cup for 2018

Lloris has lost 1/1 finals with Spurs
Lovren has lost 3/3 finals with Liverpool

Isn’t that more to do with the fact Spurs don’t get to the finals of cup comps very often and less to do with the quality of the player.

Lets be honest, Liverpool reached the CL final because of the brilliance of Salah and to a lesser extent Mane & Firminho.
Croatia reached the final mainly because of he midfield duo or Modric and Rakitic, as well as the attack of Perisic & Mandzukich
IMO Liverpool & Croatia reached their finals not necessarily in spite of Lovren, but certainly not because of him.

Yes you’re right, unfortunately Spurs haven’t won that many finals recently which is what I’d like to see us doing, which is why I disagreed with the Liverpool fan who said ‘you need players like Lovren’, seeing as he hasn’t been winning finals.
If I turned around and said to you that you needed players like Alderweireld, Dier, Son, Alli and Trippier so you could finish in the top 3, you’d surely argue that you wanted to finish 1st wouldn’t you?
