Keeper

I'm actually getting quite excited about Courtois going. However, I'm quite nervous about who we'll sign. There aren't many good keepers around. So who can we get?

First, Caballero is nowhere near good enough so let's forget him. Alisson has been linked with everyone but I'm not sure he's such a good goalie. Hoping we don't get him, especially at around 60m. Would much prefer going for Schmeichel or an English keeper like Butland of even Pickford. Maybe even a cheaper option like Cech.

We should not be looking at Cech....the legend is past it...as was Drogba when he returned

How much do you expect to be speding on a 'keeper, in net terms after the Courtois sale?

How about Oblak for Courtois + cash?

Courtois gets his move back to Madrid.

Chelsea and Atlético both retain the services of one of the world's top young 'keepers.

Madrid get a large F*ck You postcard from the other two clubs.

Great plan in theory but it all depends on Courtois not just wanting Real!

Sounds like a good plan IOAG, but it’s not as simple as that. Courtois is on his last year contract, and CFC hands are pretty tied. Courtois said that he is prepared to run down his contract and leave for free next season, if he doesn’t get a bigger contract (allegedly £250k per week) or let him go where he wants to go.

I mean no disrespect to Atletico Madrid, because they’re a great club, but If given a choice he’ll pick RM every time.

Firstly, players ambition is to reach the top and you won’t get much higher than RM, hence a more attractive proposition to top players. Secondly, at RM he would get a much bigger wage package than at AM.

Obviously couldn't happen unless Courtois agreed, I thought that would be implicitly understood.

The basic premise of the post would be that what I've read elsewhere on this site is true: that his main reason for wanting to move back to Madrid is that his kid(s?) live here.

Add that he always seemed very reluctant to leave Atlético when he was there to return to Chelsea. He was an absolute fan favourite, and it felt he'd bonded very well with the the club and its fans.

Wages would of course will be considerably larger at Real Madrid, and so would the likelihood of winning big titles, but I can't speak for him in terms of which of the factors at play weigh most heavily in his decision.

Another issue is how such a deal might impact the relationship between Chelsea & RM and whether Chelsea would be willing to sour it.

Ah I see. I don’t think he cares about the affiliation he once had with AM fans. He’s not sentimental person, he comes across as a money grabber tbh with you (most players are like that in the modern football).

Courtois thinks he’s the best gk there is in world football, hence he wants to be rewarded accordingly. CFC offered him £200k, and they were not going beyond that figure. He thinks he is worth more than that. If latest rumours are to be believed, he’s already agreed a 5 year contract worth €250k per week + a big signing on fee with RM. That’s a substantial pay rise from what he was offered at CFC.
I would say money is the biggest motivator to this move. Obviously, another added bonus is that he’ll be close to his kids, and having spent three seasons at Madrid, he’s quite familiar with the city.

Why isn't anyone talking about Keylor Navas? We can do him +$. How many times has this guy won points for Real? I don't why he is not rated

I think it's because of the different nature of the two leagues and his not being notable for his aerial game.

He's very much the kind of reflex, shot-stopping type 'keeper who may well struggle in the PL. His positioning can be quite suspect at times too.

Navas is not a very good keeper imo - he won't be as protected here as he is in Spain either. Need a physical presence in goal as well as a stopper.
