Josefzoon offer accepted

SSN reporting that Florian Josefzoon is joining either Leeds or Derby. We've matched Derby's offer which has been accepted. It's now down to the player. Posted an hour ago by Peter ORourke on SSN

So will he pick us or Derby? I can see them getting him myself.

So, you appear to be arguing that Leeds FC has access now to much bigger potential fan base. Doesn't that reinforce Vidal's thesis that LFC is generally less attracting of fans than more worthy and sportsmanlike teams from smaller cities? Such as Derby for example.

If that's what you want to derive from that, that's fine by me. Clearly too much information for you to digest.

I love a good wind up as next as the next derby fan. However, Leeds are a sleeping giant and if they somehow miraculously managed to get back into the premiership, goven that they are a one city team, I have no doubt that their home attendances would be upwards of 38k for most matches and more for teams such as man utd.

Well! doesn't every unbiased person derive such a conclusion? And as for Kstander and his claim that if they were a better team they would have more fans? Isn't that the exact point of Vidal's comments?

No. And I think that logic could be applied to any side not just Leeds United. Methinks you change your position too much to support your theory.

We have greater support than Derby County so I'm struggling to see a point here.

My missus reckons Derby has more locally based support because not many people choose to move to a shi ite place like Derby and the Derbyshire-born aren't particularly welcome in other towns and cities due to the impact they have on initiatives such as care in the community. She's a social worker so I guess she'd know......

Well, it’s a simple fact that Derby has had bigger attendances than Leeds for the last ten years, and it’s a simple fact that Leeds has a far greater population than Derby and that this has always been the case. Far more people have been born in Leeds than Derby. Leeds has a far larger population to draw from for its support, yet fewer actually go to games. So the only logical inference is that people born in Leeds or who live in Leeds are less keen to go to watch their team than their equivalent in Derby. Leeds’ support is therefore far, far poorer than virtually any other club you care to mention in terms of the proportion born there or living there who go to watch.

These are simple facts. If Leeds were promoted and the attendances magically improved then I guess that would indicate that their fans are a fickle bunch of glory hunters.

Well it's nice to see you lot getting on so well

I repeat Vidal's support figures. Absolute numbers - not relative numbers. They say it all really. But I can see that LUFC have more nastily partisan fans in my experience. However this is boring so I for one will not take part any further, except to say - Well done! Vidal.

Over the past ten seasons Derby have averaged around 2,500 more per home league game than Leeds. The city of Leeds has a population of around 780,000, more than 3 times the size of Derby, and more than the entire population of Derbyshire. The Leeds City Region has a population of around 3 million by contrast. Leeds ought therefore to be averaging at least 3 times more per game than Derby, yet in fact fewer people go to watch Leeds than Derby.
