Henry To Villa

News is Thierry Henry is in line to take over at Villa Park.

Is this an internet rumour or does this story have some truth?

It'll be a big coup if true!

Could this put a spanner in the works for Spurs? Their big money signing for the summer was going to be Grealish, but why would he want to leave when he could be playing under Henry?!

Massive coup getting an unproven and untested manager in on a ridiculous salary

Yeah see your point. Big name of course will attract better players, or so you'd think?

Err, we haven't got any money

Pretty sure this is just click-bait. Would Henry come when he knows he can't actually sign anybody?

From a Derby County view point who have taken a punt on an unproven big name player to manage us I would say do it. What do you have to lose?
You have a great squad who need revitalising after another season of under-achievement under the useless Bruce.
Even if you don't get Henry, get rid of Bruce he's not up to it. He's not got the imagination to get the best out of your team.

Difficulty is that Bruce is a mixture. We actually had a good season, the first since Houllier when we actually ended up in the top half of the table; 4th isn't to be sneered at. And there was a great sense of unity between players, manager, club and fans, first for a very long time, probably since MON's best season.

Against that, too many times we didn't turn up for no obvious , and that cost us promotion. We beat Wolves convincingly, then slumped in the next few matches. We didn't show up in the first half of the playoff final; why not? Maybe it's not refreshing the team when needed.

If this was the end of the season and the money problems weren't there, I'd have thought seriously about replacing Bruce, trying a change of direction. But the fact is we've had a hell of a two month period, there's a danger of the positives from last season getting lost, and the reality is that although the club is no longer in crisis, there's a big limit to what can be done financially to support a change of direction.

Henry is used to a big club scene. We're only big in our history; at this precise moment we're a Championship club with very limited resources for transfers. Would it be a good match?

Maybe you lot are too close to it, but Villa have a squad that is the best in the championship and never got promoted. Workmanlike Cardiff went up with not one player who would get in the Villa team. Huddersfield likewise. So if the playing staff are the best then something else is holding them back. And that's Bruce. Villa should have gone straight back up and with a better manager would have. Now you are looking at year three.
Don't get me wrong if you keep Bruce the rest of us will be happy because Villa will not go up this time either. Villa fans should be looking at 4th place as an abject failure.

You have a point! However, the critical words are "better manager". Nobody can say Henry is a better manager because he's never done it.

Find somebody who already has the credentials, and it may be something worth doing. Henry hasn't.

Things are critical at the moment. We don't want to go backwards. We've been badly bitten in recent years by appointing managers who didn't have the experience: Sherwood, Garde, di Matteo. To be fair, all three inherited a poor situation, and maybe di Matteo should have been given longer. But with Bruce we can carry on from where we left off. I'd rather a new manager came in when there was already some stability at the club, and the new owners have had time to do a thorough assessment.

Bruce staying. Sensible decision for where the club's at. Now the new owners can get on with sorting the club's affairs, deciding future strategy and putting plans in place. Steve has the opportunity to show what he can do.
