Villas-Boas Let Himself Down...

Comment from Villas-Boas on Cashley's assault on Hernandez:
"Maybe he would not [have done it] if the linesman had done his work. Maybe he [Cole] would have been a bit more clear. Maybe, if it is 0-0, Ashley is a bit more in control of the situation"

So AVB is now blaming Cashley's attack on the officiating. Apparently GBH is fine if a player feels decisions haven't gone his way.

I had been rather warming to AVB, but I see now he is just as insane as Wenger and "King" Kenny.

Of course AVB is going to back his player, it’s not like he is going to say Cole will not play in our next 3 games or Cole will be fined. Every manager backs there players. I’m sure Fergi or Arsene would do the same.

Every decent managers defend their players in the media no matter what the players do. Don't you remember what Ferguson said after the Rooney's elbow incident last season? He said "there's nothing in it." I personally don't like managers defend the indefensible but maybe it's what they have to do as part of their job requirement.

AvB = budget mourinho

on the upside, at least he came and attacked. mourinho would've parked the bus, shot the tires out and set it on fire.

Made a mountain out of a mole hill here. Every manager will defend there player, which is no surprise there. As someone mentioned above, when Rooney elbowed McCarthy there was more malicious intent in that, then what cole did. At least cole was trying to win the ball in a tackle whereas rooney's was just an attack. And saf said 'there's nothing in it'.....I mean come on. This article is ridiculous

AVB's defence of Ashley was wrong. He should have said that both he and Pea threw themselves in at a desperate situation - you have to man up and accept footballers do that in the goal area.

It was clearly just a desperate lunge to try and stop the ball off the line. Unfortunatly Cole has caught Hernandez and it looks horrible on the TV replays.

As for taking Ashley's character to condemn him. So his departure from Arsenal. He's hardly the only footballer to try and manufacture a move for money, is he? In fact there was at least one other playing in red yesterday.

As the commentator Martin Tyler said yesterday, hes supposodly actually quite a nice bloke. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer but nothing like the person he his portrayed as by the media.

Not unlike Rooney he comes across badly during a game with the adrenaline pumping but he certainly isnt the type to purposely injure someone.

Are United fans criticising a player for an awful challenge? I thought they would have just swept it under the carpet along with the vast catalogue of Paul Scholes' tackles.

================================================
Yes we are criticising a reckless challenge by Cole, just as any
other fan would be criticising a challenge like that on one their teams players.

Scholes did make some terrible tackles and I would never deny that.

But we are discussing Cole yesterday not Scholes from last year
or years before that and for AVB to say Cole might not have launched into a nasty tackle on Hernandez if the officials had got earlier decisions right at Old Trafford is utter rubbish.
You need to get your head out of your backside mate
and instead of trying to deflect it back, accept it was a
reckless challenge and move on.
