Huddersfield Town 0 v 3 Chelsea

Town v Chelsea

Saturday 11th August

Kick off: 3pm

John Smiths’ Stadium

After a busy summer of World Cup football and a constant checking for transfer news, the Premier League is back and our beloved Huddersfield Town is set to begin our second season up against the big boys. Hands up if you’re excited 🙋🏻‍♀️ I know I am.

After ensuring our survival against Chelsea in the penultimate game of last season we face them again on the opening day. Town have been active in the transfer market with quite a few new signings, and perhaps more to come by the deadline today?

A massive signing for me was Kongolo, he was immense during his loan spell and fingers crossed his form continues. Be honest who would have thought the day would come when we would be able to sign players from clubs like Monaco? Wow, just wow 😊 I have to be honest I’d never heard of some of our new signings but was impressed when I saw them against Lyon, and from all accounts we (they) looked good in Austria.

I actually went to Germany for the Interwetten Cup (paid for by my family as last year’s Christmas present) and apart from our performances had a great weekend 😂

Chelsea have not only made changes to the playing side but managerial as well. I don’t know anything about the new manager but fingers crossed it takes him a while to settle in 😂 The biggest transfer for Chelsea is that of Kepa the keeper, which led to a record transfer fee for that position. This transfer appears to have been forced on them by the departure of Courtois (spelling?) Will he play on Saturday or will poor Caballero be dreading facing Du Poitre (if selected) once again?

My line up is:
Lossl
Hadergjonaj
Zanka
Schindler
Kongolo
Mooy
Hogg
Pritchard
Diakhaby
Sobhi
Mounié

As to how Chelsea will line up I have absolutely no idea but I just hope we get at them from the off and not be intimidated in any way.

I can’t end this thread without mentioning some of our departing players:
Ince - this took me completely by surprise I must admit, never entered my head that he would go.

Malone - this has not surprised me at all, he just didn’t look good enough. Sad to say my abiding memory will be of him attempting to clear the ball and it hitting him in the face 😂

Hefele - I am really upset about this. To me he epitomised the whole Terrier Spirit and identity throughout his time here and I want him to stay. But I do understand he probably wants to play a full part at a club not just cameo appearances. Heff you’ll always be welcome back here and I wish you all the best.

On to Saturday now, it can’t come quick enough.

My prediction? 2-1 to us (as usual) Mounié and Diakhaby to score 😊

Only one new signing makes the kick off, Hamer!

Hold out until the second half and then put the speed demons on.

I thought we were doing ok to start with, not really outclassed, even after their first, but the penalty knocked it out of us. There was a bit of arguing going on between our players during the game as well, or should I say Hogg gave Loewe hell after the first goal as he was well out of position. My son said he also had a go at Schindler but I didn’t notice that.

I’m not sure about Hamer, thought his kicking was poor. I imagine Lossl will be back next week. We had some chances but again, didn’t take them. We can’t afford not to at this level.

Oh well, I didn’t really expect us to win today but was secretly hoping for a point. We’ll just have to get our first points against City next week 😂

Just going to watch Wolves v Everton now and really hoping Wolves get battered. For some reason their fans have taken an absolute dislike to us and are all over social media saying we’ll be relegated and we don’t deserve to be in the Premier. What is wrong with them? One was even saying to a Leeds fan he hoped they come up as we go down. Anyway I hope they fail spectacularly. Not that I’m vindictive or anything 😂
