Players who may leave

These are Emery’s thoughts on possible departures:

“Today, we had a meeting with the players to close all the possibilities to leave or come with more players," he said.

“We only have three players: Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina and Joel Campbell, with the possibility to leave.“

Does this sound about right or would you advocate cutting one or two more of our fringe players to give our youth a chance and free up a space for a new arrival on the next couple of windows?

Sounds about right, I'd maybe loan out welbeck...

Need Welbeck as an option on the wing. At least until a better option comes along.

I’m thinking it may be best to sell Welbeck now and allow Nelson and Nketiah chances in the first team instead. It’s clear to me Welbeck is not good enough for this team so why not be ruthless now so that other players with more potential get the opportunity? Or am I being too harsh on Welbeck?

Very risky. I love seeing youth players come through as the next man, but there's no guarantee they're ready yet.

Welbeck is a superb athlete, I expect him to start in all big games he's available for. His stamina, power and speed is excellent for a pressing system.

So Welbeck is a first XI starter for you when fit? I’m surprised I didn’t think anyone still rated him that highly. Maybe ahead of Iwobi I guess but surely not ahead of anyone else?

No, I don't think we'll need him against the smaller teams, especially at home.

But in big games, he could be very useful if we employ a pressing system. Remember the 2017 cup final where he put Chelsea under all sorts of pressure

I just wish he could develop some level of composure. He’s almost Gervinho-esque when in the area!

Nah, he's worse.

I'll settle for him learning how to kick a ball properly.
