Marcelo Bielsa is set to make wholesale changes for the visit of Preston in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
After seeing his side stretch their unbeaten run under him to six games with a 3-0 win at Norwich on Saturday, Bielsa will place his trust in his fringe players to secure Leeds' progress in the League Cup. The likes of summer recruits Patrick Bamford, Jack Harrison and Jamal Blackman are set to start, along with youngsters Jamie Shackleton and Tom Pearce.
Luke Ayling, Kalvin Phillips and Samuel Saiz could be rested after starting every game so far this season, with Middlesbrough next up on Friday in the Sky Bet Championship.
Preston NE
Preston boss Alex Neil may decide to keep changes to a minimum after his inexperienced team suffered a third league defeat of the campaign at Derby. Tom Clarke, Alan Browne, Paul Gallagher, Billy Bodin and Sean Maguire missed the 2-0 reverse and are all unlikely to feature at Elland Road.
Chris Maxwell could get the nod in goal after starting the 3-1 win over Morecambe in the previous round, with Calum Woods, Daniel Johnson, Jordan Storey and Josh Earl among Neil's other options. Preston have yet to taste victory on the road this term, losing all three matches without scoring a goal.

Leeds have only lost one of their last 12 home matches against Preston in all competitions (W7 D4), a 6-4 reverse in September 2010.
Preston haven't faced Leeds in the League Cup since the 1966-67 season at the third round stage - they drew 1-1 at Deepdale before losing 3-0 in a replay at Elland Road.
Leeds have won 10 of their last 12 home League Cup matches (D1 L1) - their only defeat in this sequence was a 5-1 loss to Chelsea in the quarter-final in 2012-13.
Preston have been eliminated in their last three League Cup ties against Championship opposition - in their most recent encounter of this kind, they lost 6-0 to Newcastle United at St. James' Park in October 2016.

Like them or loathe them, these Cup games seem to come along just when we don't need them (bloody Sky )

Els, it certainly started as our second team, I'd have rather have had more first team starters starting, win the match then rest them (thats the theory anyway).
The worry was how impotent we sounded, we played against 10 men for an hour and I struggle to think of any real clear cut chances we created.

Am still not convinced when we go behind, that we will pull it back.
Yes we did it against Swansea, but our second goal came from three huge mistakes in the same move.

I agree Kebablegs, sadly me and thee are probably the only folks on here who remember Paul Madeley. Played every position for Leeds except goalkeeper.

Think there’s plenty of us who remember the rolls Royce.
Disappointing today. We’ve played well in most games though maybe not as well as the score lines suggest... we’ve taken our chances, opponents haven’t. Today was the opposite. Hey much rather it was today than Friday, but would always rather be winning.
