DPL vs Blackpool - EFL Cup

The legal and financial machinations surrounding control and ownership of Blackpool FC continue (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45151845) and it is difficult to imagine whether you could invent such a parlous base upon which to run a football club. It almost merits congratulation at the ability to survive and achieve a measure of success.

Despite the fascination of this, the football team never seem to generate excitement as prospective opponents.

In the league they have crept up the table with draws and a single win to reach halfway. They have lost only once, to Portsmouth at home, and of course they beat Barnsley at home in round 1 where both teams fielded some squad players, so a good result.

If they persist in putting out squad players and McCann plays his first eleven as he did in R1, we ought to prevail comfortably.

However, having been critical about McCann's failure to provide opportunities to certain players it would be nice to see Beestin, Ben Khemis, ex Burnley Anderson and Watters in action.

I'll say a 3-1 win (Marquis - Wilks - Rowe - Andrew - depending on who starts as my choice of goal-scorer) and 6250 there.

Well that was pants.
Apart from the back 4.
I cant find a good word hardly to say about the rest of them.
May ran around good goal and set up the woeful Taylor for a shocking effort.
When the midfield and forwards have such a awful game then I tend to look at the tactics used.
Ben the chemist did show a bit of promise the short time he was on.
Anderson from Peterborough would have been of sat with me catching my man flu.
All in all it was a night to forget.

Definitely not rock solid. Lights out and Tangerine dreams for me.

I've seen Taylor and Crawford who are both poor and this new Anderson may well be equally devoid of quality. So add McC's favouring of the consistently disappointing Kiwomya over Beestin and Ben Khemis (who has always seemed worthwhile in his various brief appearances) and you must question McCann's judgement.

There is no solace in the stats even. We had fewer shots, less possession and fewer corners than Blackpool; we couldn't even beat them on fouls, so less aggression too.

No one has mentioned Lawlor, who based on the brief highlights and true to habit, never seemed to leave his line just looking on for the first goal, so all the manager needs to do for the next game is continue with him at Peterborough and inflict a further disadvantage upon us.

I used to be undecided about MaCann now I'm not really sure.

Don i purposely didnt mention Lawlor.
I dont like to single a keeper out but he never seemed settled and was stuck.to his line and more importantly he did not look happy to be playing

Same old same old. We are so poor in our reserve department I dread to think what will happen if we get any long term injuries.
May took his goal well, but, he had 3 far easier chances and missed the target once, lost the ball twice, as for that dream ball on the six yard line smack in front of the goal....... Why the @#$% did he want to take a touch.
Back line, Mason was targeted again, really struggled to play the ball out, not strong enough in the tackle.
Lawler, like a rabbit in your headlights. Had a big chance to stake a claim for the number 1 spot, new it. It's like he's afraid to come of his line, something that the CBs are aware of, as they panic every time a ball comes in. Midfield, none existent.
Anderson ? Thought he was someone who'd just ran onto pitch for a kick-a-bout.
Blair tried but, like most of the team, just couldn't pass to one of our own players. Just a very bad day at the office, can only hope we turn up on Saturday or God help us.
They were by far a better team, don't think they got out of 2nd gear. Their little midfielder ran the game from start to finish.

Just goes to show you fans views on certain players.
I thought Andrew and Mason were probably our best 2 players.
Twice mason bravely brilliantly won the ball in 6 yrd area at defining moments one with foot one with head.
Both players played dangerous balls into box occasionally overhit by Andrew .
One thing i did notice wen both fbs were clearing the ball under pressure they seemed reluctant to play the ball out wide but put it towards the centre circle

I am with you Lanza.
Although Mason wasn’t at his best against Blackpool, he was one of our better players on the night.
One of the reasons his balls out of defence was the lack of movement by the players in front of him.

The ball 8n the first half that Andrew played across the face of goal was as good as anything you might see on match of the day.
Out of interest, did anyone spot that it was Mason who was furthest forward and almost got on the end of it?

On the brief highlights it is hard to make any real judgement. However, Taylor's double miss was bad. It was a good save from the first shot, but the GK should not have had a chance.
I've never been a great fan of Lawlor. Although he has made some great reaction saves for us, I have always thought he does not read the game well and is static too often. Based on the brief highlights and others' comments, that does not seem to have changed.
