Your nans

How come teams your nan could play for both qualified for the Europa League yet the 7th best team in the PL did not?

posted on 30/8/18

What about West Ham the last two seasons? Southampton previously? Everton before that?

The big 6 English teams are all good in Europe it's the teams below that are massively over-hyped.

It's the lack of respect to other leagues that don't have anywhere near the resources yet outperform these clubs that leave the PL fans looking silly.

What was the last European trophy a Scottish team won?

Why don't Scottish teams make the CL group stage anymore - even Young boys of Bern qualified
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well when Scottish teams are operating on less than 10% of what a relatively small English club in Burnley are operating you can see why the don't win Euro trophies.

Though they've still got to two European finals on fractions of the budgets of the money league teams in the past 15 years.

Celtic have just been in the groups 2 years in a row too.

When did Spurs last win a European trophy?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

82-83

We've won 2 European trophies since either of the old firm last won one. We've won as many euro trophies as the old firm combined.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You one your 2nd the same year Rangers won theirs

I think you would find most football fans up here respect sides like Spurs even though they've not got to a European final since 84.

3 different Scottish clubs have been in finals since then btw

Refreshing honesty.

There are good teams in England but by christ most of them are over-rated massively.

The difference between the middle of the road players in the PL and smaller European leagues can mainly be found in the pay packets, stick them on the same pitch and you start to wonder what the extra money gets you
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Have said it all along, because English sides pay the most money it doesn't mean they are getting the better players, it just means they are getting ripped off because of the leagues overblown status.

Not the same as winning it, as you will know.

I respect Rangers and Celtic, but don't understand the pelters because a cannon fodder prem team that massively over achieved last year got knocked out, how would Hamilton or Livingston get on.

As for West Ham and Southampton - West Ham have always been a tin pot ropey yoyo club, but they have as many euro trophies as Rangers and Celtic.

Southampton beat Inter Milan during that campaign, but suffered from their usual problem - they had sold all their players to Liverpool.

It would not surprise me if Burnley went down.

Probably the most Scottish of English sides

Isn't the answer to this because English teams generally couldn't give two hoots about the Europa League, unless they have a genuine chance of winning it?

Why would Burnley care about a competition that they can't win, that isn't particularly cash rich, when staying in the Premier League for another season is worth about £120M? Scottish clubs probably need the money from European competition, English clubs most certainly don't, unless it's the Champions League of course. How many Scottish teams were in yesterday's draw for the Champions League, I forget?

Of course they CAN win it, but there's a far greater chance they won't.

So no point trying then?

Think that probably encapsulates the English loser mentality better than anything.

By that logic no team would bother in any tournament.

Even Real Madrid in the CL, they've won it 3x in a row but there is more chance of them not winning it than winning it every season.
