Sarri's Philosophy

Its' working, he has revolutionized the team, we dominate possession and play free flowing football with both short and long passes. My question is this; do you think we can have a lion's share of possession against the likes of City, Liverpool or Spurs who play exciting footie as well?

Copied:

The heart of the matter
Initially, Sarri joked that his brand of football was picked up after a lot of 'lost matches' and wrong results. Speaking to Sky Sports after the victory against Bournemouth, the Italian said:

"They wanted to see my football here. Ball possession at very high speed of the ball. Not aerobic speed. Mental speed, first of all."
Sarri has always focused on a unique defensive style, along with the offensive strategies.

"Some players played for 10 years looking at the man so you have to change the way of thinking of this player," he continued. "I want to defend looking only at the ball."
Despite the 12 points Chelsea have collected from their first four matches, the 59-year-old is ready to face the downs.

"So far, so good I think," he said. "But I know that in the future I will have to face some difficulties, of course."
Speaking of Antonio Conte's system, he said that it is 'impossible' for him to play with a back three as it doesn't suit his plans.

id say chelsea have been most impressive so far.

city struggled with wolves and newcastle, 2 teams last season theyd of put to the sword, not sure whats going on with jesus and sane atm.

spurs got a rather flattering scoreline v united but then struggled yesterday

liverpool have yet to face a real test but havent slayed teams like last year.

United wont be challenging

Some may be amazed by the skill of individual players, but for me, Sarri is something else. He's hit the ground running, Chelsea are very exciting to watch and are quite clearly top four contenders, and that's got to be down to him. They are as different as chalk is to cheese from last season, and that's only after just four games.

we are looking decent....BUT...

We could have easily conceded two goals to Bournemouth this week, and another two or three to Arsenal...our defence is shakey at times

Tbf i think even with Modric it would have been a tall order to adapt to the AVB football.

A lot of fans will never consider our current crop on the level of the old guard in terms of status but the one big thing they do have over them was adaptability. With the old guard it was one trick, they were incredible at that trick but any attempt to try and change tact with them guys fell flat on it's face, these lot have won the league playing Jose's football, did it again playing Conte's football and might challenge again playing Sarri's.

That's why i always reserve a bit of criticism when it comes to AVB (banter aside), because Sarri and even Conte would have struggled to implement their ideas onto the old guard.

Definitely. Things like playing a high line with players like Terry, Alex & Ivanovic in the back 4 were never gunna end well. But if you make a decision to go with the "pretty football" manager, you have to at least give them that linchpin player in midfield to give them a chance. If they're not at the club, pay whatever it takes to sign them.

We're still a work in progress, but we gave Sarri a perform to accurately evaluate the squad's potential to play his way like we didn't for AVB, and we've already seen it take effect... e.g. Alonso is relishing the inverted LB role, Azpl is looking iffy at RB, Kante has aspects of Allan's game but still needs to improve, Pedro > Willian on the right, etc... without Jorginho conducting from deep, we'd still be trying to figure out how to dominate games at all atm

Against us and Spurs, you'll have more of the ball only because the strength in our teams lies in the pressing & quick counter attacks. Both teams with a different variant or interpretation of those tactics as well so using the same defensive plan against both teams might not work.

Anyways I had Chelsea down as challengers for this season. It didn't matter who the manager was as long as the players were motivated to play for the new manager, which seems to be the trend these days. Your real test will come next season where your players usually down tools after a successful first season.

Devils i have a feeling Jean Michael Seri was the back up plan for Jorginho. He certainly wouldn't have been as good but he would have probably been the next best available.

It was quite the coincidence that the Seri rumours seemed to grind to a halt almost side by side with the talks of Jorginho starting to heat up.
