I've never quite understood the away goals rule in the sense that it still counts during extra time giving an extra 30 minute advantage. Should it be revised so that post-180 minutes the winner's determined by most goals?
Or should it be scrapped altogether - does a team really deserve to go out if matches ended 2-2 and 3-3 for instance? Then again, extra time would be an advantage to the home team regardless.
Personally think away goals should be scrapped entirely and extra time with it too. If a match ended 5-5 on aggregate then penalties to decide.
Away goals rule - Yay or Nay?

The team with the most Ls in their name should be given the win if the match ends in a draw

I'm not a fan and haven't been since 14/15 when we drew 1-1 away to PSG and then 2-2 at Stamford Bridge and went out, I genuinely couldn't see how it was right that drawing 2 games = elimination/progression.
It takes away from the excitement too, IMO.

that really sucks. i agree totally.

When you put it like that, perhaps it should be looked at

Rule was brought in to avoid a third game but that doesnt happen now due to penalty shoot-outs - SCRAP IT

I honestly don't think it makes a difference whatsoever and changing it or keeping it will make no change.

It does though - in several ways including the example from 'the garden of eden' above where you get eliminated despite never losing

I mean obviously how teams progresses changes; but I don’t think we will see much difference in how teams approach the games.
Before if a team lost 2-1 away they still looked to win at home with the other team playing for a draw. Now the same thing happens.

If a team initially loses 1-0 away - on the return leg under current rules they have to be super cautious of not conceding because it means they need to score 3 to progress.
Without away goals in place they can go simply go after any winning scoreline to avoid getting eliminate.
Game plans will change. So in my head anyway - it makes sense for it to be judged on aggregate scoreline and if it's level pegging then it goes to penalties.

Yeah I mean the scenarios change, which I know. Yet the point is gameplans don't really change just the goalposts do.
The only difference it will make is that a team can no longer progress while drawing.

I went off it when Atvidaberg knocked us out the ECWC on it, in 72!
