Guardiola - The Best Ever?

Apparently Sky was having a discussion about Guardiola being the GOAT manager, and that this Manchester City team is the greatest team ever (that's not what sky said)

So I'm arguing with my Spanish friends about it, I seemed to have missed something.

Do you guys agree?

Good comment giroulski, although I’d argue your point about Guardiola to Cruyff is similar to Cruyff to Michels. They’ve both taken a basis and then taken it to another level. You can’t really say it started with Cruyff.

That's a fair point regarding Total Football. He is one of the most famous player managers of all time though. He was effectively coaching the sides he played in for much of his career. And his work with the Ajax and Barcelona youth systems has led to the development of many of the best players of the 20th and 21st centuries.

His commitment to the beauty of the game is unparalleled.

Completely agree with that and you can see the progression through all of it.

Other managers have not won it with a prime Messi too.
=======
Exactly. They've won it without a prime Messi but Pep can't despite having the most world class players any manager in history has ever had during his career.

So the same argument can't be used re other great managers in contention for the greatest ever

It is a daft comparison.

I doubt Pep will be here for the next 24 years.

I also doubt he'll break the transfer record multiple times.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He's broken City's transfer record six times, each time spending more on a player than Fergie ever did.

It's 2018. Comparing Pep's spending figures to Fergie is ridiculous.

Pep's spending is ridiculous compared to his contemporaries to be fair.

Compared to Mourinho, it isn't. And Fergie was the biggest spender in the league for donkey years until Abramovic bought Chelsea, and even then, was the only manager who could rival Chelsea until the Sheikh bought City.
Let's stop pretending money was ever a problem for Ferguson

It never was. Not pretending otherwise. I was simply responding to the comment about Fergie breaking spending records. Pep has broken spending records too.
