Spurs warned by advertising Watchdog

Tottenham have been warned by an advertising watchdog after a promotion which claimed their new stadium would be the "only place in London" to watch Champions League football this season.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has sent the club an advice notice and told them to avoid making claims they cannot fulfil.

Spurs have used Wembley as their home, with work on their stadium overrunning.

A fan of North London rivals Arsenal complained to the ASA.

The new stadium, on the site of their old White Hart Lane ground, is now not set to open until at least January 2019.

And Tottenham face a battle to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage, needing to win both their final group matches against Inter Milan and Barcelona.

I said at the time that it was a bad mood. what the fack is it about this facking club, that makes us all have to come out with so much bollox constantly.

we are spurs, therefore we fack things up, and for the club to come out with that campaign was laughable. firstly because the stadium was inevitably delayed, so we cannot have CL there, and secondly because in true spurs fashion, we are facking up in the CL, so we are unlikely to qualify for the next stage, and I bet we typically don't get back in the CL for ages, so the new stadium wont see it for years.

spurs can be such a caaaant club at times. should have just shut our big mouths, and put our head downs and done the business with the stadium and done the business on the pitch instead of facking up inter away and PSV away.

its a bit like when these fackwit players come out with their normal bollox about "we need to learn from mistakes" and "we need to show character", and then make the same mistakes again and again and again and again.

no sympathy for the club on this one, should have been humble and got the job done.

caaaant club.

Ever heard of big builds running over schedule. Or is the Spurs Stadium a complete one off? Honestly the fuss over Spurs stadium being a few months late is a complete joke. Who bloody cares, I don`t, it will be around for 100 plus years, a long time after we have all departed, so what`s the big deal?

Don`t fall into the media trap mate of making out Spurs Stadium being a few months behind Schedule is like something really, really damaging, it simply isn`t.

I work in property development mate. I know that buildings are always delayed, which just makes the stupid campaign even more ridiculous. you know the stadium is gonna be late but still open big flappy gob about how its only place to watch CL football in London.

we are not out but we are up against it to qualify, and I haven't seen any CL football, or any other football for that matter, in our new stadium.

Me and Chronic don't usually agree, but I'm with him
Here. Complete and utter embarrassment from the club as per usual putting that ridiculous advert trying to mock other clubs, but only for it to spectacularly blow up in our faces in true Spurs fashion. It's almost like the club enjoy the backlash we all get it from it because I can't think of any other way why the club continuously embarsss it's own supporters, be it on the pitch or behind the scenes. How about the club just shut the f*** up for once, until we actually achieve something. Once we are winning trophies etc, then boast all we bloody want and throw it in people's face.

Who bloody cares about advertising campaigning saying it will be open and up and running for CL football this year. Does it really affect your life that much? It certainly doesn`t mine. I couldn`t care less about what other clubs, media think? It is no real big deal. You don`t get extra points in the Prem for opening on time.

Should change the poster to “the only club who actually believed they could build a new stadium from scratch in 15 months”
