Duffer

Former Irish international Damien Duff has admitted he is in discussions with Scottish side Glasgow Celtic in relation to joining their coaching set-up.

Duff is currently coaching the Shamrock Rovers U15 team but reports emerged in Scotland earlier today that he was linked to the vacant Celtic U20s role. The job has been available since September when former Celtic player, Shaun Maloney, left Parkhead to join Robert Martinez's Belgium backroom team.

Speaking to RTE, Duff admitted he had visited the club last week and was impressed with the training ground facilities.

"For me and most Irishmen, it is one of biggest clubs in the world. There is a role going there with the reserves. We are still talking to them. Listen, what route am I going to do down after finishing football? That's all I know. I don't have a school education, anything. So that is all I know. I'm absolutely obsessed with football. Obsessed with learning and improving and that could be an amazing environment to do so."

Duff went on to cite family commitments, although he was hopeful that the move would transpire.

"Obviously, I would swim over to work there. But the minute you have a beautiful young family, which I do. When there are kids involved it is obviously hard, an emotional thing to do. I'll just have to bribe them with getting a dog or something, I'm afraid of dogs so I'll have to rent two houses over there! It is an amazing club and hopefully, something will happen"

He`s a good lad is Duffer..

Doubt it. Despite a better playing career than Slippy Ste Duffer knows he needs to learn his trade
----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you suggesting otherwise?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd say Gerrard had the better career by a distance.

If you judge league titles Duff wins easily though. But he also wins the relegations easily too. European results it's not in doubt who was more successful. Cups Gerrard I think edges but that might be close. Caps must be close too but Gerrard played at more finals.

That's before getting to Gerrard having been a far better player too. But it's all about opinions.

SHAMROCK ROVERS has tonight confirmed Damien Duff has left the club to take up a post with Celtic.

The Irish Legend had been working with Shamrock’s youngsters for some time now but caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers who was keen to fill the role Shaun Maloney vacated last year.

Shaun left the role to pursue a first team coaching role at Belgium under his former Wigan boss, Roberto Martinez.

Duff will be part of Celtic’s youth setup and will assist with bringing on the best young Celtic talent to the first team.

This means the Irishman will have massive input into developing Karamoko Dembele and Armstrong Oko-Flex; two teenagers who look destined for Celtic Park’s hallowed turf.
