Manager Shortlist Megathread

Alright, I'm literally bored out of my mind in the office right now and I've been reading up and down the internet to see who's on our shortlist. Going to compile onto here so the clusterfcuk of the board is minimized. I'm actually going to tier them how I see fit.

Tier "Logically makes sense and available today"
Laurent Blanc, Zinedane Zidane, Leonardo Jardim, Antonio Conte

Tier "Logically makes sense but could be available soon"
Mauricio Pochettino, Carlo Ancelotti, Diego Simeone

Tier "Nostalgic and for old times sake"
Any ex-United player (Carrick, Neville, Butt, Scholes, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs, Bruce, Hughes, Solskjaer, Cantona)
Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Carlos Quieroz, Mike Phelan

Tier "I like their Progressive football but too many ???? surrounding them"
Lucien Favre, Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe

Tier ????
Random names being thrown out. Pep Rodgers was an interesting shout even though he's playing with no competition up north.

Looks about right?

Personally, I want Blanc on an interim basis till end of the season. If he gets us into the CL and/or gets us playing better football, then we keep him. If not, get Pochettino. Hire Zidane as the DoF. He's done essentially that in Real Madrid and was very successful bringing up youths and combined the 1st team, reserves, and academies into one well oiled unit.

I've seen some talk about Utd going for Pochettino and him taking Toby/Kane with him.

What the Glazers should be looking at it is offering a handsome wage to Daniel Levy. He's bound to want a bit of the biggest sporting commerical enterprise in the world. We'd maybe stop getting bent over in transfer fees too.

Thought this was interesting quote when I was reading up Blanc. Could raise some red flags here.

"a lot of PSG fans claim it was his assistant Jean Louis Gasset who was the real factor behind the success at the club and blanc merely took the credit, Blanc doesn't even get involved in training. Might explain why hes been hesitant to take another job as Gasset is now managing St-Etienne and doing well might i add."

Gasset was also his assistant in Bordeaux and for the French National Team.

Tbf, the “assistant coach was the REAL brains” argument comes up all the time (Peter Taylor, Shakespeare, Brian Kidd got above his station at Utd too). Managers rarely spend ALL of their time out on the training field leading sessions, they delegate. That’s what SAF did, Clough too.

I’m not sold on Blanc as a long-term solution, he won things at PSG but then so does every manager, they didn’t think he could progress them in Europe either. His success at Bordeux was a decade ago now.

That was the big criticism of Jurgen Klopp a few months ago too.

Giggs is still a possibility for interim manager.

Other managers have been in charge of both a club and a national team at the same time, including Guus Hiddink (Chelsea/Russia)

He'd be a better option than Carrick or Solskjaer and he'd still have a job to go back to after May.

Do PSG score over 100 goals every season in the league? Who were their forwards that year?

Yeah the assistant was the real brains articles always come up, Klopp was the last with the guy that he had at Dortmund leaving him not long ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think their forward line was 3/4 of Zlatan/Cavani/Moura/Di Maria, they scored over 100 goals last season too, Monaco also scored 100+ when they won the league.

I was trying to think of other examples but yeah, Klopp 's assistant leaving was supposed to throw a spanner in the works, if anything they've improved.

Just a thought. What if Ole comes in as temp manager then fills the director of football.technical director role when the perm manager is appointed?

Is definitely an appealing option rather than ditching Molde for just a few months.

I agree. Giggs isn't the right choice here.

Ole isn't qualified enough to be a DOF here IMO.
