For them wot couldn't mek it

Invariably, the best experiences in life are the ones which start off with relatively low expectations, but end up being unforgettable. This one turned out to be epic and was described by some as the best away day for years.
The day started well, meeting Griff and his Dad in the aptly named 'Glasshouse'. Some drinks later and we were transported to the ground by an extremely talkative Hungarian taxi driver, who after years of driving football fans, had mastered the art of swearing in English. He ended up as Griff's best mate, to the extent that I suspect that his next holiday will probably be in Budapest !
1600 hundred or so Derby fans were in good spirits, but after an even opening 10 minutes or so, the home side began to play to their full potential. In the next 20 minutes we were totally 'under the cosh', and mainly due to the quality of the home side's play, 2 goals down. The first stemmed from a fantastic crossfield ball from midfield, which found the right winger with only Wisdom to beat. He did this with some ease and his low cross found Godfrey (who?) coming in from the left. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and give credit to the opposition. For the second, Wilson lost the ball in an attacking position and the resulting counter was swiftly and deftly put away by Pukki. Quite a buy, he's turning out to be !
The Rams fans were subdued, but the atmosphere didn't turn nasty. Something turned it round. I remember a tackle by Wisdom, who looked to be trying to prove a point after his disappointing time at Carrow Road. The pressing became more effective and the energy levels racked up.
'We never score from corners', but we did from 2. One was rifled in by Tomori, the second, a good low strike by Mount. And so we went into halftime level, which hadn't seemed remotely possible after 30 minutes and momentum had turned.
In the second half, Norwich were penned into to an extent and not much of the play came towards our end of the ground. George Evans was growing into the game, tackling and breaking up play and making intelligent passes.
At that point, I would have taken the point, as might many others. But with 9 minutes to play, a Carson goalkick, which tried to find Marriott came back very quickly from their centre half and the defence were left isolated, with little cover to prevent Pukki from netting his second. Not something that Derby had deserved and to demonstrate their annoyance, the gods extinguished the floodlights in the far corner of the ground. After
minutes of confusion, the referee took the players off the field. A lone figure was left. Nuuugge !
He gave a masterclass in keepy uppies and on the instigation of the Rams fans started the bounce. This had been attempted by the Norwich fans also, but was hilariously deemed a failure by the far more experienced Faithful.
Somehow, this show of bravado stirred up the passions of the Derby supporters and we were up for the fight on the return of the players. The rest was a whirlwind, which defies description. If you need details, I suggest you watch the highlights, because until I see it again, it all seems a bit of a blur.
Suffice it to say, courtesy of 2 Derby goals, a crossbar and a teriffic save by Scotty Carson, we emerged the victors. 'You'll never beat Tomori.' was the cry. The celebrations in front of the Derby fans were fantastic and I
was left with a sense that, as fans and players alike, we had rediscovered our season. This was clearly a team that had shown an immense amount of spirit and passion in turning round a situation that may, at one stage,
have turned very messy.
It was my best experience since the play offs in 2014 and no doubt a great way to enter 2019. My son doesn't go to many games these days, but he sure knows how to pick em !

I've just watched the highlights and still can't believe the end of the match.

The commentator is poor, he doesn't know our players till he sees the number. Is he the regular chap or did they find him on the street?

Well done Ang. Impressive that the casual reader would probably be completely unable to detect your disappointment that your adopted hometown team lost.

Very nicely described Ang. Reading your report was almost as good as being there. I can only hope that my own attempts at reportage fill the gap half as well as yours. You certainly had plenty of action to hang your version on. Electrical failure, recovery after two goals down. First goal for Tomori, Marriott getting a very decent goal, Mount scoring and Josefzoon. I wonder how he played overall. He has needed to improve and stop trying so hard to impress only to mess things up by a poor decision - almost every time. And was Mount back to his earlier creativity?

All of the players seemed to be having an enjoyable time including the loanees, which can only be a good thing. Tomori certainly enjoyed his goal, The only possibility I can see of any of them staying at Derby is for us to win promotion and for them to enjoy their football enough to be happy to stay.

Ramdini, I must say I found it very difficult to meet the publication deadlines. Don't know how you do it every week.

I would say Zoon was probably the quietest of our players, but he must have been doing something right for Frank to leave him on for the whole game. Holmes made a good impression during his short cameo. Mount played well and looked better with Wilson with him in MF.
A word for the manager as well, as it was his bravery to take off Wisdom, who'd looked solid, and put on Nugent. His (& Jody's) substitutions effectively swung the game our way.

I think Lampard said Wisdom was injured anyway but maybe he would still have made the change. Holmes runs well with the ball, I like what I have seen of him.

I assume it was Holmes who managed to provide the tricky assist for 'Zoons goal? He did well in that melee.

I meant to mention this morning that Chris Rayburn (he is a sort of wannabe Ang), for The Sunday Times made Zoon man of the match............
