Overtrained and Underwhelmed

But unlikely to be going any time soon. Good article in the telegraph on the mess at Leicester

That Newport game is probably the beginning of the end for him. Maybe a very long, painful, drawn-out end.

BS no one was pushing for Nigel to get sacked except me! no he was sacked and reinstated that was the leak.
Cheesy interesting what did Puel do different from every other Premier league manager. These aren't the exact figures before TB butts in but 130 players out of a possiable 190 players in the cup players fuffed up in the newport game Pep played the seven youth team players and won.
Its the modern game not just Puel ever manager does it

Maybe so but Claude chose not to have Vards on the bench at Newport which was his big mistake.

The problem is that now we're out of both cups, the focus is now entirely on our performance in the League to Puel's detriment.

I hope you're wrong Dunge about the lame duck manager, that's a depressing vision for the rest of the season. I'd still like to see him develop what we're doing and show we can move forward under his stewardship.

I trust we will see 3DMs against Liverpool, if not it could be a cricket score.

I fear a cricket score even if we play with 3DMs!

Although Liverpool are wobbling. This is the time to play them.

Other clubs rotate because they are playing in Europe as well as the league and/or because they are looking for a CL place, or fighting a bigger battle in relegation.

We haven’t played the extra European games and aren’t vying for CL places or fighting relegation. At best, we were looking for that outside Europa place (which is what makes the idea to not play a full strength team against Man City in the league cup bizarre and no real logic of why we wouldn’t try to progress in the FA Cup - a) for a cup we haven’t won and ) aiming to progress to the same competition as 7th or a league cup win would gain.

But I think you have hit the nail completely on the head Nev. He rotates because some other clubs do it. I think there is no more or less involved in his thought process - evidenced by this constant rotating now even when we are only playing league fixtures now (and please let’s not use this embarrassing excuse about this host of additional games that we’ve had to play as a club because there hasn’t been many, and as mentioned he completely contradicts this by rotating in league games <and not even based on consistent form or understandable/logically tactical choices)

As humans we desperately strive for greater meaning to everything and structure and order.
As fans, I think we are desperately looking for a deeper meaning but the sad truth is: there isn’t one. He is simply rotating for the sake of it and to give a whole host of players a game in a whole host of positions. That’s it.

I can’t remember the last time, as a fan, it was January and I was just wishing the season away. I’ve accepted what the rest of the season holds and my biggest worry is the affect it will have on the start of next season, and ability to convince players to stay (even with a new manager) when other clubs come calling.

Positions = formations

Having a 'zombie manager' until the end of the season benefits nobody, and it's not fair on Puel if he's the last person to know about it. The man has a life and a family and it's only fair to let him know if a career defining decision has been made so he can prepare himself.

If the decision has already been made, it should be announced as soon as possible so we can at least try to salvage something from this season. Because I don't honestly think that Puel will be able to motivate the players, and I sadly lack the faith that they can motivate themselves, especially if some of them know that they're days here are also numbered. I'd sooner have an interim manager for the remainder of the season and give Top and the club the time and freedom to pursue a new manager.

A poor, limp end to one season often lasts into the following season. Of course, a new manager and half a dozen or more new players might alter that, but I'd rather not take the chance. And I'm sure the club will be thinking about next season's season ticket sales as well.

I just find this rather sad. It's a real shame that things just seem to be petering out and making the club devoid of any energy or enthusiasm right now. It's depressing.

Not some managers every manager changed 130 players out of 190 in the FA cup. Every manager rotates or he will not to be able keep 25 top flight players fit or interested only four clubs are in Europe so whats the excuse if not that of the others

1.) how’s that rotating worked out for us since Newport?

2.) we haven’t rotated for fitness, he’s done it all season - even in the bloody beginning when consolidation of a first 11 and tactics should have been priority.

3.) how and what we ‘rotate’ for us is an absolute WORLD APART from how it is being by successful clubs who utilise it for a reason

4) he is rotating for the sake of it to simply rotate the players and give everyone a game. Clueless tactic. Evidenced no more by the Man City cup game and recent league fixtures. He is not rotating ‘because’ of particular opponents, he’s rotating ‘despite’ who we are playing.

5) I couldn’t think of a worse attribute to discuss if looking to defend Puel. It has been his absolute weakest aspect as a manager and has completely affected momentum both last season and this. Not picking your best team for each game (on the whole with some exceptions) on form is ridiculous - rotating and resting players should be used when needed not as some sort of go to for most matches. He has failed on a epic level with regards to this aspect.
