Fans

Glad to get a massive win today but slightly overshadowed by fans coming onto the pitch on our game and also in the Birmingham Villa game continuing a worrying trend in recent weeks both north and south of the border

The question is what can be done about it? Apart from banning the idiots for life that’s not going to deter other morons from doing the same.

People are talking about point deductions but that seems too harsh as you can have stewards and police covering the areas around the pitch but if someone wants to get on then it’s still going to be very difficult to stop it.

Maybe the threat of ground closure for one game and if it happens again then make it two games and so on.

Bit of a tricky one as there’s no way there will be a return to fencing

Most fans who invade the pitch don't give a sheet about their clubs. Its all about their 15 mins of fame. It doesn't matter how many stewards you have. Unless you are willing to go back to moats and fences the best remdey is to starve them of publicity. But its the opposite to how the media have reacted so its not going to stop.

The actual deterrent is more likely to be the legion of their own fans waiting to kick seven shades of sh*te out of them for costing the team points. And that will be the case.

Think those days are long gone. Way too much fear of getting knifed.

Winston - I don't believe it's always possible to treat the cause. Personally I can't be doing with derby matches, but a lot of football fans love them precisely for the tribal rivalry that they embody. I can't see how you're going to end that - the whole issue of identity politics is big across the world right now and nobody's come up with a decent answer, let alone local rivalries at football matches.

But what I believe you can do is lay down rules.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I understand what you're saying and largely agree, but there's a part of me that still believes it can be improved.

Pretty sad state of affairs if this is it and we just have to accept it.

Absolutely do not just "have to accept it"! Do we have to accept drunken driving?, rapes?, shoplifting?, certain drugs?, murder?, etc. etc. etc.

We are a country of laws! If we are not enforcing the laws then start enforcing them! If we have laws that are too lenient then they must be toughened.

As far as accessing points for what happened at the Gunners - United game, that would be premature and probably unfair and also subject to other system violations and mischief.

When is the last time you had a lucid thought?
Did your Mommy teach you to talk like that?

Are you capable of following the message behind a comment and not simply the words?

Time to have your nappy changed! Have a wonderful life.

No one was talking about accepting the crime.

We talking about whether you accept society being as it is and whether there is more that can be done than just managing the situation as it is.

Jailed for 14 weeks apparently, along with a £350 fine/costs and banned from any football ground for 10 years. Plus a lifetime ban from BCFC.

I'm surprised how quickly this was done, even with the media attention.

14 weeks is a joke - our sentencing of such crimes is part of the problem, nobody is frightened of the punishments handed out because they are so weak.

Fortunately he didn't land the full swinging punch cleanly but if he had it could have caused massive damage to Grealish.

He should have gone to jail for 3 years minimum (I mean serve 3 years, not paroled) and a lifetime ban from all football grounds. When he came out he should have done another 3 years community service on weekends.
We should then advertise these sanctions on billboards and carry them out without fail. Only fear of punishment will affect the scuum in our society...

Backfour,
I essentially agree with you as stated in an earlier comment. Some stiff jail time, plus a serious fine followed by additional community time on week-ends should be accessed to each and every field invasion.

Additional invasions should see the sentence doubled!
