Ronaldo

Sometimes you just have to appreciate immense legends in the football world and Christiano Ronaldo at 34 has just single handily put Juventus through to the next round of the CL with a hatrick in a 3-0 win. Has there ever been such an ultimate big game player as Ronaldo ?

The guy literally delivers on all stages every single season. It’s quiet incredible the level of brilliance he produces year on year out and showing no signs of stopping either despite his age. Juventus are certainly a team I want to avoid in the quarter finals, especially with Ronaldo in the ranks now. Ronaldo

Chist! i dont understand the logic of some people. Like, how are you gonna go to the extreme, and actually state that Pele is a fraud? It beggers belief!
Ok, we’ll never know how he would play in the modern game. I have my opinion. But its wasted on someone calling him a fraud. you making out Pele was this average player. So Messi has stayed in one league, is he a fraud?
Or is it that you didnt see Pele, so just cos it didnt happen in your time, its irrelevant.
The guy was a complete baller!
The mentality was on another level.
Throwing shade on Pele, is disengenious.
So why not do it to George Best then?

He is the exact opposite of the spurs players. An absolute winner who also shows up in the big occasions. Whereas out lot fold like a piece of paper at crunch time

Was Barca away not a big crunch game?

What about Inter and Dortmund at Wembley? and PSV?

Selective fecking memories!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Barca away... we saved by Inter completely facking up their game... we needed a win at Nou Camp to qualify without help, so I'm not having that.

Dortmund.. we were underdogs in the tie... nothing to lose... and that's actually why we are usually decent in the CL... we love being underdogs. cant deal with the expectancy.

we have lost about 10 FA Cup semi finals in a row, and collapsed in the league more times than I wish to remember... there is no way that those are overcome just because we beat inter, psv, real madrid last year...

what happened in the Juve game? after the first leg we should have finished the job and we got completely schooled in the second game.

I have to agree Chronic. I fail to see any footballer new generation or old as good as Ronaldo. I’m in my early 30s so obviously to young to see the Pele’s and Maradonna’s but I just fail to see anyone with the level of consistency over different top leagues as Ronaldo. I don’t care what anyone says, Pele did it mostly in in the Brazilian league which is an extremely poor standard compared to the rest of Europe. Not denying his immense talent, but Ronaldo for me is GOAT. No player better in world football ever, greatest of all time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not having that Don, Pele won three world cup winning medals over 12 years, and played for Santos one of the greatest ever club sides, just because they did not play in Europe did not make them a great side. The South American sides of Pele`s era pretty well cleaned up everything when they did meet European sides.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sandy, you can’t tell me the Brazilian league even in your era was of high standard mate sorry. I have seen the highlights of a lot of Pele’s goals and the defending is absolutely atrocious. The Brazilian league has always been pretty poor standard, I really don’t think that’s changed really mate. Santos probably were a great club side not denying that, but the standard was extremely poor throughout the league, hence the ridiculous amount of goals Pele scored. Ronaldo has done it consistently in Spain, England and now Italy. Scored more champions league goals against Europe’s elite more than anyone. Won the European cup with an average Portugal side. Countless trophies with Real Madrid. Sorry, but you can’t beat that mate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry Don, I like you a lot mate. , but you need to brush up on your history a bit. There used to be a Interncontental Cup played between the best clubs in Europe and the best clubs in South America, it was started in 1960 (Pele`s era) and disbanded in 2004. The South American Countries filled three of the top four places on the winners rostrum over that period, and five of the top individual teams out of the top eight were South American Teams. The South Americans also had some serious club rivalry which was of a very high class.

Fair play Sandy, but I still think football these days is of higher standard. Players back in your day could smoke, drink alcohol etc and still be dominant ( Gearge Best ), not denying they weren’t good players, but players of today in terms of athletes etc is a lot stronger. Just my personal opinion, but obviously as a younger generation football fan, I’m probably a little biased.

SO you have an excuse for every game we did well in high pressure difficult situations but accept no excuses for losing games in high pressure difficult situations

vs Barca....if we had not drawn in the Nou, we would have been eliminated. Wll done Spurs for getting a point at Barca where few teams get a sniff, let alone a point

Dortmund....underdogs WTF has that got to do with our quality performance. Nothing to lose YEs we did, we had a place in teh next round to lose, elimination from the Cup. We didnt play in a "nothing to lose all guns blazing fashion", it was a quality well executed clinical performance. The away leg was a top drawer European away performance. Well done Spurs

Collapsed in the league Every game is a massive game. Every game a must win...so miserable sods store up their "we bottle it everytime" until we lose....matters not if its Saints or United, if they beat us, we blew it! We didnt blow up in the league this season or last season...look at our run-ins we won. we went something like WLWWWWWWWWLWWW in 2016/17 from feb onwards and something like DWWWWWWWLDWLWW last season. That aint blowing up....that's as good as you've ever had it.

Juve game....yes, we let a great position slip. Guess what? We've learned. We've progressed and were clinical vs Dortmund this year. We've gone Groups, Ko stage, now QFs at least. Progress.

We have the same points as at ths point last season and 3 pts off what we had in our best PL season the year before.

No problems Don, you are entitled to your opinion. I much preferred the football back in the day, much more interesting than today`s mainly pass, pass, pass stuff played on perfect pitches with hardly a tackle in sight. We will have to agree to disagree.

Sandy still hankers after the days of Sir Stanley Mathews,
knighted during his playing career.
Unfortunately a little later, during the mid fifties if I remember correctly,
the Hungarians - the Puskas gang - came to Wembley and taught the Birtish a lesson in football.
And the game has never been to Sandy's liking ever since.
