Leeds Utd v Sheffield Utd Matchday Thread

Here it is then, billed as The Big Yorkshire Derby and no doubt a lot of nerves on both sides for this one, for me a Leeds Win would be the icing on the cake of this season (settle down Highland, it's only another game )

Venue...Elland Road...Date...16th March...Kick Off 12:00hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Marcelo Bielsa is expected to name an unchanged side for the sixth successive game as Leeds host promotion rivals Sheffield United.
Bielsa has no new injury or suspension worries as the second-placed Whites bid to maintain their push for the Premier League against a side one place and two points behind them.

Teenage winger Jack Clarke could return to the squad for the first time since being sidelined by a virus in early February. Striker Kemar Roofe and midfielder Adam Forshaw are both edging closer to fitness, but remain unavailable due to respective knee injuries.

Sheffield Utd
Will be without suspended striker Gary Madine, who received a straight red card in Tuesday night's home win against Brentford. Otherwise, manager Chris Wilder could choose from an unchanged squad after his players came through unscathed in midweek.
Wilder has confirmed skipper and leading goalscorer Billy Sharp will return to the starting line-up against his former club. Fellow striker David McGoldrick, winger Mark Duffy and defender Martin Cranie are among those pushing for recalls.

Match Facts
Leeds United haven't completed a league double over Sheffield United since the 1991-92 season, when they won the top-flight title.
Sheffield United are looking to win consecutive away league visits to Leeds for the first time since March 1961.
Just six of the 15 goals Leeds have conceded in the Championship at Elland Road this season have been from open play.
Sheffield United are the only Championship side to have had a larger share of possession in a game against Leeds this season, enjoying 56% in the reverse fixture; since that game, Leeds have had at least 60% possession in 15 of their 17 Championship games.
Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has scored three goals in four away league appearances at Elland Road - as many as he managed in 18 appearances for Leeds at Elland Road during the 2014-15 season.
Pablo Hernandez is the first Leeds United player to register both double figures for goals (10) and assists (11) in a Championship season since Robert Snodgrass in the 2011-12 campaign (13 goals, 13 assists).

On we go then...…….A difficult game, even at home but not beyond the capabilities of this Leeds Team to go out and take the 3 points, I fully expect Sheffield to try the same kind of intimidating game as the earlier meeting so a few of Our Lads need to keep their cool 2-1 Scoreline as I think the Elland Road Faithful will play a big part in this and give us the edge ……..Roberts to get both goals <wow>

Don’t think Sheffield even defended that well.

We constantly opened them up.

And constantly picked the wrong final ball
-------------------------------------------------------------------

This.

Even with us on an off-day, how they've managed 7 clean sheets in a row is baffling.

This season we've been massively better than previous in that, yes, we've beaten all our rivals, just not when the chips are down. But second place is still there to be taken.

In the big games, and I mean THE big occasions, we almost always let ourselves down. This was a six pointer and going into the international break, it will play on the minds of the team and we'll be lucky to regain the momentum we had.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I mean of the top 7 we've only beaten all of them at least once this season (except Middlesbrough with whom we drew with twice).

Big games and we just collapse, right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we didn't beat most of them when it counted most.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WBA was a 6 pointer. Lose that and they'd be one point behind. Win it and we'd be 7 points clear. Massive game against a top away side and we smashed it.

Feels pretty surreal to be talking football after what's happened in Christchurch. We have always thought we were safe from racial hatred, because we are so far away from the rest of the planet. Not any more. We are now a paid up member of the hate crime community.
F Ll C K T H E M.
Ordinary people were attending prayer on a Friday afternoon, defenceless and humble, they had their lives taken from them by a despicable animal. Decent people, men, women, children, no-one was spared. Our Prime Minister called it when she said that everyone in New Zealand is affected by this. This is a country where communities, especially in Christchurch, which was so badly damaged by the earthquake in 2011, are tight knit. We will come together to support them, and pray for the victims and their families, and grieve with them.
It happens everywhere and we were naive enough to think that it would never happen here. No-one knows what tomorrow is going to be like in NZ, but at 1.30 a.m., I am going to enjoy this game and the rest of this season, whatever the outcome.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Never realised you are in NZ. I'm sure it does feel surreal.

Hope the game is a good distraction for a couple of hours.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Totally right. Compared to some of the horrors that real life can bring, football is nothing more than a pleasant distraction. Our thoughts are with all those who were affected by the mindless violence perpetrated on the innocent people of Christchurch.

Now the game is done, Bielsa fantastic comments before the game and all the best. Horrendous what has happened in New Zealand. And I too had a smiliar naive view that it just couldn’t happen over there. Terrorism is clearly capable of attacking anyone.

We just have to remember that people with such horrific views and ideals in that they would want to kill innocent people are so rare and while these incident create huge publicity, the positive things the vast majority of people do every day far outweigh the negatives. It’s only a tiny minority of people that are bad.

Gutted with that and we got what we deserved. 24 points to play for but now we're relying on favours from other teams and it is favours, neother Norwich or Sheff Utd look like dropping points, one scores plenty of goals, one doesn't concede them. Few points id like to make

* Wtf is up with Ayling again
* Cooper had a stinker
* Wtf was the keeper doing bringing Sharp down, it wasn't 0-0 ffs
* Jansson's knee issue was a hindrance and hopefully that clears up
* Why did Douglas come on for Harrison? He was doing ok and Douglas was poor to say the least.

Gotta try listen to my heart instead of my head. Herart says we'll still do it, head says we showed our bottle today, bottle job that is.
