Mason Greenwood at it again

https://twitter.com/FabioProd/status/1117875840103006209

Lovely free kick from about 25-30 yards last night, did anyone manage to catch the game? Easy 5-0 winners in the end vs Newcastle.

Mason Greenwood now has 27 goals & 12 assists in 27 games across u18, u19 & u23s this season

I've seen him score free kicks with his right foot as well. The free kick last night was with his left. He really looks like the real deal.

I hope he gets more opportunities, and the saying 'if you're good enough, you're old enough' is true here and Ole has plans for him. He's still only 17, but some of the things he's doing cannot be ignored.

I agree with TRS, the step up is a whole new level, its not Championship to PL. It's probably conference to PL.

The only way we will know is by throwing him in, in my opinion.

all of Chong, Gomes and Greenwood have at times showed glimpses, but none consistently as of yet.

------------------------------------------

I think that's a bit unfair tbh. Chong and Gomes have shown more than just glimpses and Greenwood has only played 3 games at U23 level. It's a poor level not just because of the quality, it's the lack of games which doesn't help players establish any real rhythm or much of a connection to those around them on the pitch and also I don't think Ricky Sbragia is the best coach either.

Don't help matters? He's special. He's quick, too footed and a deadly finisher. None of those attributes will change in first team. You're either quick or not. A good finisher or you aren't. You're fast or you're slow.

He's going to be a superstar. I have every faith. I saw him score a hatrick vs Chelsea who hadn't lost a FA youth cup game for over 5 years until we beat them. He ripped them to shreds and Chelsea were a very good team too. They were scared of him.

Only injury is going to stop this lad.

------------------------------------------------

We get it, you've seen him live a few times, big deal.

He's not special yet. Players like Messi and Mbappe were special at Greenwood's age and much more of a sure thing. Mbappe was performing at such a high level for Monaco's senior team at 17, something Greenwood hasn't done at any level of senior football yet.

You can have all the ability in the world at underage level but some players just can't transfer that ability and adapt to what is a much higher standard of football.

I have confidence that Greenwood can but I'm not going overboard about him yet because I've seen too many talented youngsters fall by the wayside after stepping up to a much higher level.

He's absolutely class. Genuine superstar potential. Far better footballer than Rashford too at same age. He's got the lot this boy.

Comments like this really don't help matters.

Greenwood's played about a half an hour's worth of first team football.

Yes what he's done at youth level is still quite remarkable for his age but at that level, more so the U23 league, the standard is quite poor I'm sorry to say.

He's blessed with a lot of talent and many qualities but just let him play and see what happens, same goes for any other youngster on the fringes of the first team.

This is ridiculous reasoning.

There's a world of difference between performing to a stand-out level at academy & reserve team level to being able to do it at the elite end of the men's game; the PL & CL.

More seasoned defenders will be able to better handle quick feet, savvy pros will be able to better manage an attacker's pace, and elite level defences and goalkeepers will reduces an attacker's chances or save shots that academy goalkeepers wouldn't.

I hope the boy does well. In his little cameos I think he's showed a little more nous on the ball than Chong, for example, who looks extremely raw.

The talented youngsters should benefit from a good pre-season training and playing with the first team in low pressure games against better opposition. Some of them may need a loan. Some of them may get first team and squad berths. The management team and coaching staff will be best placed to decide which avenue each player will benefit from.

If any young players are coming into the squad next season, it's Tuanzebe & TFM. They've each played at a higher level for long, and in the former's case, gotten glowing reviews.

That's bang on BK.

Yeah what sets Greenwood apart from Chong is he's more polished. His game is more refined in quite a few areas.

I still hold hope for the latter. He's come back into the fold for Fulham in recent weeks and hasn't done too badly. He was playing quite well against Everton from what I've heard before he got injured.

Tuanzebe's been excellent since returning from injury. He needs to play Premier League football next season, one way or another. There's just a class about him that's shone through at every level he's played.

I think the two of them could easily replace a lot of deadwood in this squad and really freshen it up along with a few new faces.

If you cannot see that Greenwood will be a top player in the future you are blind!
