Ajax

I thought that in the first round of the quarter finals, Ajax were head and shoulders above the other clubs. Having watched them demolish Juve in the way they did tonight, with de Jong, de Ligt, Neres, et al, teenagers, most of them, they just blew them away.

I can't see either Spurs or City doing them in in any semi final, they are going to go all the way.

Is it de Ligt or de Jong we are supposed to be interested in? I think it's de Jong.
They are the first team I've seen in this season's CL that gives cause for concern.

Thoughts?

No I disagree. I think Ispurs or city will beat them and city would do it comfortably. They are a good side though.

They've done well but fancy either Spurs or City to knock them out.

I don't think you can say anyone would beat them 'comfortably' when they smashed Madrid n Juve. They are no mugs clearly.

Ajax have been outstanding. Not a case of smaller club in comparison, being compact and countering versus Madrid and Juventus but they actually outplayed them, played the far better football. They are a team, reminds me of us.

Still think City will beat them however.

De Jong has already signed for Barcelona. De Ligt would be a dream signing to partner Van Dijk.

They do look good, not sure how you or City would do against them, but we will soon find out.
As for us, we started well, gave away a couple of goals and lost heart. They are a better team than us. We need a really good window.

I thought when Marcus burst forward in the opening second, "this is it!" But, no. You are spot on manusince, they were the better team, no shame in them beating you.

Onwards and upwards next season.

So so proud of this Ajax team. An Ajax team that lost it's best player 2 years ago after the Europa League final against United, but managed to do this with a new core of youth academy players (todays goal scores, de Ligt, 19 years old and captain, and van der Beek, 21 years old), with some very clever cheap additions (Tadic, Neres. both 10 mill, and Blind 14 mill, but an ex Ajax youth academy player already).

Saw an article that of the last 8 in the CL, Ajax spend the least amount over the last few years, 100 mill, compared to City's 840 mill.

So yeah, do think we don't stand much of a chance against City, but the football we produce is almost as good, and a damn lot better value for money!

Watching with jnr I said that I would prefer playing v Juve than Ajax, purely because they can match us for energy and pace.

He started pulling out fifa stats about juves fullbacks but you could see Ajax were giving juve the run around where they were lashing out in frustration.
