What a game

Just got back, haven’t had that much of an emotional rollercoaster from a football game for a long time!

Stupendous game, the first twenty minutes were just ridiculous. I thought after we got the fourth that we needed another, we didn’t take the chances when they came though. Llorentes goal I could see coming, I honestly thought that was going to get overturned though as I was certain it hit his arm.

I haven’t had chance to watch anything back yet though so assuming VAR got both right and did it’s job. I’m sure neutral fans loved the last few minutes, all I can say is wait until you’re in a ground and your team scores and that then happens to you That was not nice!

We gave it everything though and i’ll look back on that game and see it as a privelege to have been there. Well played Spurs and good luck in the next round, Son really is a fantastic player.

Doesn't matter if it hit his arm as it was a natural position and in from of his body anyway. Never a hand ball.

I know there’s no way around it, at least not that I can think of, but honestly just wait until it happens to you and you’ll know what I mean!

----------------------

I do think VAR got both decisions correct so I can't really complain about the end result, but I know exactly what you mean. Experiencing that pure emotion in scoring a goal, which is then immediately reduced to a waiting game. Will the decision go for or against you? Even if it goes for you, that rush of joy is interrupted, reduced, lost even. It's such a strange experience that it's difficult to put into words.

Walking away from the ground last night I just couldn't help but think about the Aguero goal against QPR. Had VAR been in place, would it have been consulted? And how would that have impacted on a moment that can not be put into words? That initial emotive burst is halted, the pure joy of the players and fans suspended, even if only for a moment, just ruins that feeling every fan has experienced and is a prime reason why we love the game so much.

It's so difficult to explain. To contextualise. And yet VAR is the right thing to do, to ensure that a correct decision is made - at least as correct as it can be. But because it immediately kills, even if only temporarily, that rush you get in such moments, one part of me would rather not have VAR at all, even if it means being on the wrong side of a bad decision. I'd almost rather experience losing a game to a goal that shouldn't stand.

At least you will forever have that moment forever.
VAR is here to stay.

It does take a slight touch off Llorente's elbow, which does deflect the ball further down the leg than where it would have hit, reckon it would have gone in anyway perhaps a bit harder if it hit the hip.

VAR got both decisions right for me. I understand it would have been terrible for City fans but you'll also get the benefit at some point.

they got the benifit in first game with a wrongly awarded pen that they didnt take advantage of , thats what cost them in the end .. justice was done

No, that was a penalty. Good decision.

No complaints - it is what it was - spectacular match that was lost through two defensive errors. Long long way from watching a Stuart Pierce match. Onto the League now.

seems harsh that our best defender over the season had an off night and the best striker in the PL missed a penalty in the first leg but that is life.

Lloris made some excellent saves and also some stupid moments, city's 3rd goal - what was he doing? was already lying down in the goal when it went in

I get the argument Thörgen and I am a fan of VAR. I’m just saying the impact it has on the match day experience, I do think they need to think a bit more on how they improve that, honestly just wait til that happens to you and you’re in the stadium!

Ah yes.

There was the idea of players having an electronic device on their kits or person.

Sounded plausible to me and would work instantaneously, vibrating the refs watch if its offside. They can do this in the two European cups and the top leagues first maybe.

Football is run by thick people IMO. This should be doable with all the money in the game and there would be zero negative consequences for the fans while at the same time improving their experience of the game.

Leave the VAR for penalties and red cards which are more rare.

I'm a fan of VAR but I have so many issues with its implementation. It could be a disaster.
