I've just listened to a Radio 5 (Emma Barnett Show) interview with Anthony Ray Hinton. A black American from Alabama who was wrongly convicted by the US justice system for a crime he didn't commit. It is one of the most moving broadcasts I have ever heard. You can listen to it on BBC Sounds. The following link gives you the background story, and the book he has written about his experiences.

I strongly recommend giving it a listen. The man has such dignity after what he has endured. The interview almost moved me to tears.
An innocent man on death row for 30 years.

And this is why capital punishment is not necessarily the answer UNLESS you have a confession and maybe something like multiple film captures of event etc. as after capital punishment there is no going back.

Let him dangle- Elvis Costello about Derek Bentley. Jonty you are wrong, no matter what the evidence is, state revenge can never be the answer. I do believe that life should mean life and Ian Huntley should never be free but do not hang or in any other way kill anybody in my name.

America is a sh¡tehole.
Huge health and wealth inequality, horrific "food", mass shootings literally every day, ridiculous justice system, abject poverty, overt racism, awful sports, can't build a decent car, and they don't know how the fvck to swear.
I mean they don't even know how to say swear, let alone do it.. bloody 'curse'
Why anyone would want to choose to live there is beyond me.
