Longstaff...

... Laugh a little anytime his name crosses my mind . Plenty of ready made jokes to be had here...

Anyhoo seems we might really be in for him... according to the (reasonably creditable) Telegraph anyway...

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/05/21/manchester-united-open-daniel-james-talks-line-bid-sean-longstaff/

Not seem much of him... Just a couple of games, which is not enough but he did look OK. 21 year old Matic?

Would defo be another gamble like James but I'm liking this change in direction in our signing policy if true... Young, hungry, homegrown...

Does anyone know if there are any midfielders we can promote from the youth teams who could fill the gaps? I don't really follow the youth team

Gomes and Garner are the two midfielders who look most ready.

Gomes to play as an eight - he'd be a perfect backup and apprentice to Pogba for me - and Garner in DM.

Hamilton we might get a look at preseason. The others are probably a bit further away.

No
We have the odd good youngster but overall our youth team really aren’t that good at all

Firstly, we have more than one youth team. I'm not sure which one you're referring to.

Secondly, if we hadn't promoted youngsters ahead of their age groups, we'd have comfortably challenged for the U18 PL title this season.

Thirdly, we've had a large number of U23s out on loan this season, and a very young U23 side competing, with 17 and 18 year olds promoted to compete in the senior loanees' stead.

We have a lot of talent in both of those sides.

Yeah, I'm not so surprised tbh.

Would be nice to have a DoF in to oversee restructuring, wouldn't it...

Angers me.
People are saying we need fitter players yet are going for a guy who's facked his knee and been out for the season at age facking 21.
Steer clear of this pussie and find someone who's not made of glass

He injured his knee in March, so "out for the season" really means "missed a couple of months".

3 signings says another article.

1 - Daniel James
2 - Sean Longstaff
3 - Give up and fold the club if that's the levels you're adding.

I agree HB. If we are going to sign hopefuls from lower down, like Robertson say, it's time to pack in.
