Anthony Joshua

What on earth happened last night?!

posted on 3/6/19

I hope the fight takes place back on Andy Ruiz's home turf, be it LA or Mexico.

If AJ wants the belts back he should take them back on his opponents turf like anyone else who lost the title.

It annoyed me when Hearn was banking on the rematch being back in the UK.

The rematch will definitely be in the UK because that’s what Sky will demand

The left hook to the "fuse bix" Absolutely did him. He never recovered from that.

this, looked like he went in to finish ruiz and ruiz got him with counter punch, he was looking fine up until that point

"fighter beats athlete" shocker

AJ is slow and laboured and does not have the killer instinct of a pure fighter.

Ruiz showed his fighting instincts and AJ was not interested whatsoever.

Ruiz was ridiculed because of his physique and his respect for AJ and I for one am pleased the hype train for AJ is coming to an end.

After all of this it was AJ who was gassed not the "flabby" Ruiz.

Hearn's face while he was being obliterated was a picture.

Just imagine what Wilder would do to AJ with his speed and power. No wonder Hearn wants AJ to stay away from him.

Hearn wants AJ to stay away from Wilder?!
With all the shenanigans going on, how do you arrive at that conclusion?
Think its pretty obvious Wilder is doing the duck running.

Maybe because Wilder is possibly faster and more powerful than Ruiz and would put Joshua to sleep rather than him quitting on his feet

Neither promoter really wants that fight. If Hearn really wanted to be could make it happen. He might have to make concessions but it could be done.

Just saw the fight and have to question Joshua’s stamina.
I mean Ruiz looks a bag of unhealthy flab but seemingly had more gas in the tank than the chiseled 6 feet 6 ex champ.

He was seriously unfit. He needs a new team and trainer. I was really embarrassed for him

Being chiselled - ie carrying too much muscle, is part of the problem. Muscles absorb oxygen. The more muscular you are, the more oxygen it requires to keep those muscles working. There is a reason 100m sprinters are stacked with powerful muscles built for short, high intensity bursts, and elite long distance runners like Farah have less meat on them than Paul McCartney’s tooth pick.

Boxing requires incredible levels of stamina, if you’ve ever spent an hour in a boxing gym you’ll know that. Boxers in lower weight classes look ripped as they have to cut weight and therefore have low body fat. With heavyweights where there’s no upper weight limit there is absolutely no mileage in training like and having the appearance of a body builder. Think David Haye or Frank Bruno - stacked fighters that had real stamina problems, all that muscle eating up crucial oxygen reserves. AJ is far too muscular, his stamina is atrocious. Look at Wilder, he is tall like AJ but has lean muscle built naturally from his training, he’s not stacked like a body builder. Fury looks like a brick layer but has a good engine. The ideal physique for a HW is such as Ali or Lewis. Big, strong guys who are in great shape without being chiselled like a Greek statue.

AJ needs a new sports science team behind him, and judging by some of the sheite that was being parroted at him between each round (just jab and throw the right hand) he might need a new trainer - his team had no gameplan or ability to adjust to what Ruiz was offering. AJ was going backwards and forwards in straight lines, leaving himself wide open everytime he attacked and seems to lack any ability to clench and smother when in trouble. He just fights fire with fire when hurt which is bad ring tactics, just ask Amir Khan. He’s a big strong guy with a decent upright game and explosive power, but the more you watch him the more you feel he’s very one dimensional and easy to figure out. He was in trouble vs Whyte, Wlad let him off the hook I felt and Ruiz, a facking Mexican cab driver, totally bossed him.

Rematch is huge now for him. Sometimes a loss can be good for a fighter in the long run, all the greats lost numerous time and there’s too much emphasis on the 0 in the modern game. Possible that he massively under estimated Ruiz, but there can be no excuses.

If he loses the rematch his career could be over.
