When did the top 4 become the top 6?

Serious question but I recall it was always the top 4 up until recently but is now routinely called the top 6? I have just been told it has been called top 6 since 2010, is this accurate?

To be honest I feel sorry for you fellas, having to watch the same six sides finishing top six for the next 50 years or so. I come from an era when the top six constantly used to change. Much more competitive and more interesting, not knowing who would be up the top season on season. Money has all but ruined football.

You come from an era where Liverpool won 10 out of 15 titles.
Only a few comments before you were talking about how Chelsea finished 10th. United finished 7th three or four years ago.
Things in football change very quickly, I doubt very much we will see the same 6 finish top six every season for the next 5 years never mind 50.

More like when City became a vehicle to sport washing.

Don’t remember any talk of a ‘top 6’ until Ferguson left...

Of course you don't.

It happened when 6 sides began challenging for top 4 rather than the usual 4

I agree

Football changes constantly and being so attractive to investors, who knows if say Wolves don't get a Sheiks coming in and subsidise some serious tarnsfer market dealings and make Wolves into a serious potential?

It is happening all the time. City were nowhere less than a decade. Liverpool were 8th only few years back. Spurs struggled to get into top 4 until very recenty. Conversely, Arsenal the reverse.

Just to put the record straight I come from an era where the first 14 years of watching football, 12 different teams won the title. Just let macaroni know that.
