The club managed to stay in the top 4 and reach a CL final without spending a penny for two transfer windows. That’s will have been a huge boost in terms of channeling money into stadium costs - the build, the overspend, the hire of Wembley. As already discussed though we’ve generated a hell of a lot of money via TV, our CL run, our 17/18 profits -and our forecasted matchday revenue has increased by about 70%. Plus we’ve still yet to arrange a naming rights deal for the stadium, which with CL footy and NFL links should be pretty handsome. Let’s not forget also we’re only paying £24m/year on the stadium til 2022.

The hierarchy must realise that having neglected the squad for so long now is the time to focus on that area of the club. Not least to give assurances to the best manager we’ve had in decades. Even then, Levy is still negotiating pretty unscrupulously - Ndombele took weeks and I think in the current market £53m for a player like him is good business. Beyond that we will continue to spend, but a good chunk of it will be offset by the sale of outgoing players. So far we’ve spent about £62m net, having not sold a player yet. I reckon we might see a net spend of about £80m this summer.

But given the lack of previous spend plus the various cash reserves mentioned above, I think we’re in a great position to really add quality to our squad while I also expect our 18/19 figures to be very impressive when they are announced. Win/win.
