sublime footy being played so far

Scoring at one end, not conceding at the other.....it’s the future.

We should've had VAR for their (alleged) goal line clearance - that decision may be costly for us by next May

I was very impressed with how sharp Marriott looks. Probably not the hardest of defences he will come up against but still good to see him looking sharp already.

I think we will see a few arrivals in the next couple of weeks so early days but a good initial run out!

Just watched the highlights. I know a) it's only a friendly and b) it was against weak opposition but it was good, they caused us no problems whatsoever and we kept the ball on the deck the whole time with some nice clean passing, as tommo said, Marriott looked on it and if not for a couple of wasteful opportunities and a couple of good saves from their keeper we could easily have scored 4 or 5.

So Marriott played up front with Martin and scored 2 goals.................very interesting.

The target man and quick striker is still an effective combination. It only went out of fashion because top clubs could afford two skilful quick strikers. If you have Messi and Suarez up front it makes goal scoring easy.

Chris Martin definitely still has something to offer. He has that natural flair and expressiveness that I don't think any of our other forward players have. Marriott will feed off that nicely. Im still harbouring hope that thorne can get his mojo back. Sure, he didn't get a game for luton but they were flying and their manager no doubt didn't want to disrupt a winning formula so thorne ended up as back up, but he's proven at this level he's a top, top player, you don't just lose that skillset, and it's that skillset that will I feel suit what cocu wants to implement, if he can rediscover it of course.

Martin and Marriott could work really well. Under McLaren we eventually got sussed out because the balls into Martin's feet were too predictable. Martin isn't versatile enough to be the complete centre-forward if playing as a lone striker but surely if he has recovered fully from his illness and regained full fitness he is good enough to be one of our striking options at the very least.
