Sold to Watford undisclosed fee.

Pretty much a success if he’s gone from Leyton Orient to the PL since he joined us.

Most clubs that have decent academies use the scatter gun approach to buying youth in the hope that one or two turn into great players. Some work out but many don’t.

But blame Orta if you really want.

Sheffield Utd didn't buy Dalby and the rest of them, they brought experienced championship winners, id rather we did the same.

Such as? Just looked at their signings last year and really only Norwood seems to have had success at this level before.

Which surely means we signed more players with experience at the top of the championship last summer

This.

What we have done with the academy over the last 2 seasons is the same thing that happens in every academy in the country.

But yeah, blame Orta

Orta’s in charge of recruitment. We’ve seen an inordinate amount of players come in, add zero value to first team and get shipped out again whilst draining our finite resources.

Orta hit rate is awful and he is a big reason why the club is in financial difficulties.

Isn't that what happens with u23 and youth football? Some make it, the majority don't. You talk like Sam Dalby and Ouasim Buoy are earning 20k a week.

I'd say the transformation of the youth setup has been nothing short of a revelation. But feel free to complain about it.

I’ve never mentioned anything like 20k.

We have a finite amount if scouting resources costing us a LOT of money, if we’re spending that in U23s we can’t be spending that on first teamers.

Then there’s fees, internal resource costs relocation assistance for foreign players etc and so far no return on any of them.

So would you say the youth setup hasn't been a success?

If I’m looking at youth set up I’m looking at how many players make the step up and have meaningful impact on first team.

How many has Orta signed for first team in last 2 seasons, 10, 15, 20?

How many of those U23 signings have had meaningful impact on first team?

None.

Have no problem with rejuvenating youth set up but our focus is too much on that and not enough on first team. Instead of holding up youth team as some sort of defence that all is rosy at he club when half the side are either prem loaners or first team players, who not look at the first team as a more accurate barometer of our success.

If you feel all is good because youth team won their league but first team failed to get promoted that’s your choice, personally I’d prefer first team to get promoted that’s the priority for me.
