Tom Lawrence, Metamorphosis

When Lawrence first joined I thought that he looked a really good acquisition. In his first season the performances were a bit hit and miss but overall his goals and assists were satisfactory.

Last season he produced more poor performances than good and it showed up in the statistics. I had championed him against the critics but I was losing faith. His Wembley performance was dire but when you are being supported by a decreit Ashley Cole that could be expected.

Then last night a new player emerged. Running at the opposition, linking with team mates, tracking back, drawing fouls outside the opposition penalty area and last but not least scoring two cracking goals.

So what was different.
1) Cocu appears to be have him playing a bit deeper. He is now more involved with the game instead of waiting for the pass to set him free on goal.
2) He appears to have bulked up a bit over the Summer. Not so easy to shrug off the ball without the opposition conceding a foul and presenting more of a problem for opposition forwards when he tracks back in defence. Bulking up can make some players less mobile, remember Miles Addison who became so big he could hardly turn, but Lawrence didn't lose any mobility.

Have we uncovered a star player, will it last and will VC10 actually praise him.

Did you manage to watch a live stream of the game vidal?

Yes I did! I was hoping for a performance that showed promise for the season but it was way more than that. Then we went to Long Beach to watch the surfers. Great day.

Perhaps he's found a new mentor in Phil, Chris or 2-sheep ?

The live commentary wasn't quite the same sans Igor but we muddled through

Well - Watters forgot the season had started - 666 in permanent decline since his ill-judged Keogh debacle - and one or two others on hols would make the 100 or so.....

He’s being linked with Villa for £12M.

Not defending him in recent times but may it be said/considered that he lost his mum last season so no doubt had a lot in his mind, maybe she’d been ill for a while?

I noticed after both goals he looked up to heaven and blew a kiss.

Outstanding performance from the lad last night. Pleased for him, hope he can press on in that role.
