Poor from Ed

My two pence worth

It’s been a disappointing transfer window. Yes, we have bought really well in Bissaka and MaGuire , but certainly not enough numbers in.

Our midfield has been of concern for a number of years, and to let Fellini and Herrera go (correct decision imo) and not replace is just poor from the club.

I don’t believe for a second Ole gave Ed 3 names to go and buy this summer. The list would have been longer and he has failed to get players in.

Have we improved our team? Most probably yes as our defence looks better, but we have a weaker midfield and less of a goal threat without Lukaku.

For the record, I am glad he is going, gone etc. Just not a Utd striker, but where is the replacement?

There must have been an alternatives list if number one targets were unattainable.

The blame lies solely at the feet of Ed. He’s had well before the summer began to get the ball rolling in bringing players in as needed in key positions. He has failed yet again. It’s a shambles from the club.

I can’t see us finishing higher than 6th again. If we have a bad start, and let’s face it we can lose both opening fixtures, Ole could be gone by November.

I don’t blame Ole for Eds failures, but he will ultimately pay the price of failure if we have a poor start and a in a mid-table battle come the autumn.

We've been shiite for a while and dont expect any different this season.

Not addressing the midfield is stupid.

We can strengthen the defence all we want... If we can't keep the pressure off it, it'll likely buckle regardless

AWB... Great signing... Dan James could prove a great bit of business... Maguire I'm not totally sold on but fingers crossed n all that

But the midfield just isn't good enough

Ripping the squad apart isn't realistic obv... But we've signed 2 first team players and 1 potential

Its just not enough considering what state we're in

McT and Pereira more established, more experienced and settled.

Fred has had a season to adapt.

Pogba has stayed, and more importantly appears to be happy and thus unlikely to start the season poorly like he did under Mourinho.

But we've also lost Herrera who at times was our best CM. Matic is one year older and closer to being disabled, we've also lost Fellaini who while not a fans favourite, offered us something different.

I'm happy about McTominay's progress, Pereira's future is still pretty uncertain but I'm happy to give him more of a chance (which he'll likely get). I'm not giving up on Fred either but I also don't think there's anything to suggest he's now adapted to his new surroundings. Pogba clearly wasn't happy under Jose but it isn't clear that he is happy now either.

I personally wouldn't say our midfield is stronger now.

Now you are talking some sense. Matic is going to be crapper and we have not replaced Herrera.

We can only hope Dazza is right when he said Ole will start with McT instead of Matic. None of our other midfield options look anywhere near the level of Herrera though.

I think a lot will depend on how our forward players press the opposition. If they do that well enough then the midfield can keep on the front foot.

And we just have to be much more clinical with our chances.

Looks like a deal has been agreed for Lukaku which is good, big call though if no one comes in

£65m, with £12m in add-ons

I thought the whole issue with Inter wanting him a few weeks back was that they literally couldn't bid any higher with up front payments because of FFP?

How have they now been able to offer us more upfront without the issues of FFP?
