Predictions

This the fourth year of a prediction article, I always get told to wait until the window is finished, so I have.
The first two went according to plan and I got most right. Last year I had the top two in the wrong order, I thought City would fixate on the CL and Pool on the title, ah well.
As always no prizes, just a gentle ribbing for those who really get it wrong.
I only do the league, that's hard enough; cups are much more difficult.

First. City, I think everybodies choice, the best squad, great manager.

Second. Spurs, more of a shock. I think they have bought well. Also they now have the advantage of a home ground , a factor I believe under-rated, also a super manager.

Third. Liverpool. Eyebrows raised as to why not at least a place higher, especially with Klopp who I really like and rate. Firstly I think they made a mistake not strengthening.I think even their own fans have a worm of doubt about strength in depth. Also I think the fans and club are a little fixated on the CL, or the pinnacle of club competition as they like to call it. I disagree but it's only my opinion vs theirs, and I would like a couple more for my team.

Fourth. Chelsea. Our bogey team, we don't have a great record against them.Hazard gone, new untested manager?. Well they are still full of good players, I think Frank will do OK, and by now it's in their DNA;

Fifth. Arsenal. A good window I think, and a good manager who is getting a grip on the club, I think fifth is the worst they will do.

Sixth. United. And not even depressed by that so long as the style of play improves, Ole makes his mark, some youngsters get bedded in and we are heading the right way. I think our problem this season will be inconsistancy, some good runs, some bad. I do feel we are only one more window away from being a good team and I think next years prediction will be different.

Below that I think Wolves will pip Leicester, however they paint it Leicester are weaker imo.

Over to you guys, it's just for fum (and it tells us who knows something about football).

I believe we can finish 5th bearing in mind Chelsea have lost Hazard and have Lampard in charge (who is also inexperienced at this level).

I know we didn't have the best window, but if we steady up our defence that will make a huge difference to our points total.

We didn’t win a single game in our final 12 games not because of quality but because we ran out of steam.

That is such rubbish. Sure, there was some tiredness but it completely takes away any responsibility for the manager and the players which if you have any brains is idiotic.

The more logical argument is that once Ole got the job on a permanent basis he tried to play it a lot safer and the side suffered. If you remember our games from Feb to March you’ll see that you can’t just blame tiredness.

1) Pool: Just because I see City going for the CL full steam and Liverpool has plenty of growth potential even without transfers.

2) City: Too close to call last season, will be on the wrong end this season. Frankly Pep needs a CL with City to shut up the haters and please the investors of the project.
3) Arsenal: Emery got his warmup year behind him and got the transfers he wanted. Squad is still miles behind Pool and City, so 3rd would be a decent result.
4) Everton: I'm not sure if it's because of their image as 'Neverton', but they got their hands on really good players for almost a bargain. Andre Gomes would fit any top 6 club, Arsenal and Utd should have gone for Sidibé, if they knew he was available. Kean for 30m is a steal if people are paying 70m+ for Lukaka. They actually dont have any big holes in their starting 11 unlike Utd and Chelsea.
5) Spurs: Although they have had a good window, the defense seems fragile regarding injuries and quality in depth. And still the same issues in the striker position.
6) United: Where to start? Midfield is one of the most important parts of a squad if you want to play posession football and Utd only have 1,5 midfielder good enough for 3 spots. I don't see Ole managing this problem unless 2-3 midfield players have a huge break-out season. And if Ole wanted to rely on a good defence and bypass the midfield to play direct, they just sold Lukaku....

Yep, no Chelsea in top 6. A lack of transfer window due to restrictions and an inexperienced manager is recipe for disaster. Lampard was a great player, but even if he's a talented manager it's not the best way to start your career. Would have been better to give a guy like Eddie Howe a shot and have lampard as ass. manager.

People are brave predicting that Wolves and Everton will break the top six.

I think Wolves crack Top 6, buy not at our expense, they're the sleeper team this season. Chelsea may slip out of the Top 6. City tops again and we're back in the CL in May. Stop the doom and gloom. Ole's at the Wheel - have faith.
