A lot of debate over the window about the value of Celtic and Rangers players and what dictates their value.
Naturally a club is entitled to ask for whatever they want for a player but that doesnt always represent their true value.
Morelos is a prime example, people compare him to dembele and say "well he scored more goals, so why shouldn't we ask for 20 million"
Stats are the tip of the iceberg though, and its clear that dembele has more to his game. Power, pace, skill, ariel threat, composure, and the fact he is a big game player.
Dembele was always going to be a top player, we were just fortunate to get him for a few years.
Morelos will score goals, but so did boyd and nobody wanted him, so did mcdonald but how much did he go for? 3.5 million?
McDonald scored goals in the champions league and domestically when it mattered, so why not 10 million at the time?
Because he wasn't good enough for a higher level, thats the short answer.
Same goes for Tavernier and Tierney - Tavs has more goals and assists so surely he is worth the same if no more?
sorry but not imo, i think tavernier has a wicked cross on him but his defensive game is average, tierney was great going forward and solid at the back, thats why he went for 25 million.
As i say, stats are great, but scouts know what they are looking for in a player and thats the reason boyd and mcdonald went for cheap despite their goals and why celtic won't get anymore than 3 million for Scott Sinclair.
anyway, not a rangers bashing article, just looking for other peoples insight...
A players worth...

I'd really like to see Morelos and Defoe in the same team and I'm sure it'll happen at some point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dont think it'll be for more than 20 minutes a game in desperation. Gerrard really seems to like the 1 up top system
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye seems to be the way, though he did talk preseason about maybe tinkering with three at the back.
If that was the case there could well be two leading the line and at some point during a game there could be both up front.
Macgregor
Goldson Helander Katic
Tav Davis Kamara Aribo Barisic
Defoe Morelos
It's doubtful a formation like this will happen but you never know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On paper i like the look of that, maybe see that in Europe away at some point.
Though Jack would play, Gerrard loves him.

Jack was actually class in my opinion yesterday. I think he just suits Gerrards team

I think Aribo being there has allowed Jack to relax a bit and focus on just being good at what comes naturally to him.
Gerrard was trying to get Jack to be more attacking last season and it just isn't his game.
With Aribo being more of a naturally attck mined player Jack can sit comfortably in the middle third and do what he is goo at. He can also choose his moments to go forward rather than trying to force it.
I have never been Jacks biggest fan but he has started the season really well.

NNH, I was waiting for someone with that intelligence to say that. As much as I think morelos is a bam, good finisher & intelligent link up. Would be a great link with dembele.

Dembele plays upto on his own. He doesn't link up with anyone.

I think if Morelos can add a bit more composure to his game instead of trying to blast every shot as hard as possible, and stop reacting to niggly fouls from opposition players, then his value would increase substantially. I think a lot of Celtic fans, perhaps willingly, can't see past his ill discipline and inability to score an open goal from 2 yards out, both of which can be addressed with coaching and experience.

He's still too small for any of the big clubs.

How many open goals has morelos missed from 2 yards out?
He missed one against celtic and one for Colombia.
And in the meantime has scored about 50 goals and had multiple assists.
Aye but remember that one time two years ago he sclaffed an easy chance against celtic?
It is comical the way morelos is judged by celtic fans.
Yes he was an indisciplined bam last season. But his all round play also massively improved and I would say his chance conversion has also significantly improved.
