Having female referees in top flight football (in front of all the cameras) may also help in a slightly backwards sexist way

I can't image the players, at least at first, will be up in a female refs face, going mental, swearing and acting like the typical mugs they do around a male ref.

It would be because rightly or wrongly being aggressive/confrontational to a woman would cause a PR issue for clubs, managers and players.

Ideally gender could be irrelevant to refereeing. It should just be best refs are in charge regardless of gender and the players/managers and refs themselves show respect/do their job competently no matter what

Lets be honest the spotlight was on the female refs. The players were most likely told they would be under extra watch to keep bad language to a minimal.

If players acted like they normally would have the papers would have been all over them along with the womens rights brigade.

There's no logical reason why a female shouldn't be as good as a male ref.
I was also pleased to see the players arguing with her. Be treated the same and all that!

Apart from your captain who's usually a facking pus5ssy to any bloke being in the face of the female ref and getting booked for it too

On the pen...first thought was it was a penalty...most closer looks after pretty clearly suggested it wasn't...what's the point of VAR if they can't get that right, no fault from ref though

She was quite lenient with some fouls, which let the game flow to be fair

The one that get's me is the VVD barge on Pusilic when he's near the by line, he had no intention of playing the ball....I fail to see how that is legal
